I'd say it's possible... but, it's doubtful you'd be able to use the material without lots of modifications. One thing you might do rather than recycle articles is get a bunch of PLR ebooks, reports, courses, tutorials, stuff that probably hasn't been worn thin as site content. Modifying this type of material gives you stuff for your site likely to be fresher. Most ebooks have far less 'wear' or exposure and are probably easier to make unique.

Here's a list of some of the things you can do with PLR stuff:
    • Sell It Retail
    • Sell It Wholesale
    • Offer It As a Bonus With Your Own Products (according to the terms of the licensing agreement)
    • Turn Articles into Special Reports
    • Turn Articles into eCourses
    • Turn Articles into eBooks
    • Turn Articles into Autoresponder Series Messages
    • Turn Articles into Web Content
    • Spin Articles and Promote Your Products
    • Spin Articles and Submit To Gain Backlinks for Your Site
    • Start an Article Submission Service Offering PLR Content
    • Start An Article Spinning Service and Offer The PLR Content
    • Use eBooks and Special Reports as Opt-In List Building Giveaways
    • Use eBooks and Special Reports as Bonus Items for Your Offers
    • Re-Write eBooks, Special Reports, and eCourses and Re-Market Them
    • Use Website Templates to Create Your Own Sites
    • Create Niche "Buyers Guides" Using PLR Content
    • Use PLR Content To Create Viral Reports Promoting Your Affiliate Links
    • Modify and use Sales Letters to Promote Your Own Products
    • Sell eBooks, Software and Special Reports as they are.
    • Bundle Various Products and Sell, them or Use for Opt-In Offers
    • Read Some of This Excellent Material and Put It To Use For Your Business
    • Modify Websites, Sales Letters and Product and Promote to Various Niches
    • Create Newsletters from eBooks, Articles, and Sales Letters
    • Use The Content As Scripts To Produce Unique Audio Recordings and Videos
    • Use PLR Content For Webinars, Podcasts and Teleconference Calls
    • Use PLR Content To Create Marketing and Sales Material for Offline Marketing
    • Compile PLR Content Into Special "Tips" Reports
    • Translate PLR Content into Other Languages and Break Into New Markets
    • Use PLR Content For FAQ Pages
    • Create Banner Ads From PLR Sales Letter Content
    • Revise PLR Content and Use As 'Before and After' Copy To Pursue Editing Gigs
    • Use PLR Content To Brainstorm New Product Ideas

This is absolutely possible, especially if you re-purpose the content. One of the posts above detailed this nicely. Make it uniquely your own, most people are either too busy or don't seem to think the few minutes of time it takes is really worth it. You'll be a few steps ahead of others if you just take the time to tweak it.
        Thanks,
        Ted

    Very, very possible.

I have done this many times over the years.

I have had most success with IM related subjects where I have bought the PLR to a particular product and completely re-written (mostly) and turned it into my own product. I find the best way is to rename the product and rebrand it with new graphics etc. so that it bears no resemblance to the original.

I suppose what I am doing is using the PLR as pre-research as a way to quick-start and then adding the value myself.

I think the secret is to buy a quality item in the first place, research the subject further and add lots of additional relevant content. What you turn out has to be of value and not just a "padded out" copy of the original.

Think to yourself - would I find this product of value? and would I be happy to pay $xx for it.

It takes time but, done properly, you will have produced something of value and which is very sellable and which is yours.

This also applies to other niches - I bought a PLR gardening handbook several years ago, worked on it as mentioned above and use it as a give away on one of my niche sites. As it's so comprehensive and useful it generates loads of goodwill and trust from my prospective clients.

Definatly, One of my PLR Hypnosis tracks appear in a very high ticket course, not so long ago.

PLR definatly cuts down the product creation time.

I believe you still can build a business from doing this, but if you claim the product to be written by you, without re-writing the content over time people will find out and you may lose credibility from the online community.

Thank you guys for your lenghty replies.

I assume it is possible to build a complete business that is 100% based
on PLR materials, especially written materials such as ebooks and reports,
because they only require some rewriting and modifications. It would be
harder with videos and audios, because the voice is not yours and it's
technically harder to change the content.

But rewriting a number of PLR ebooks/reports can be tough, so I think
at least a half of it needs to be outsourced to someone who undestand
what is your goal with the materials. I find the outsourcing part critical
and not so easy, because it's hard to find right persons for that job.
Standard writers hardly manage to rewrite an IM ebook , simply because
it's not the part of their business, and they just reword sentences, very
often using such expressions that are very strange to IM world and sound
      amateurish.

I think that finding right writers for rewriting PLR ebooks is the hardest part.

This is the beauty of PLR. Take the material and make it yours. When you buy PLR content it's likely not going to be a perfect fit. In fact, it almost never is. If someone were so inclined they could recycle all kinds of books, reports, guides, courses, whatever.

Video marketing is exploding. A smart person could take decent PLR content, literally purchased for pennies on the dollar, make changes as needed to personalize it to suit your business needs, add your style, theme, whatever, then re-record it and literally call it your own (in accordance with the license, of course).

And if making videos isn't your thing, you have a vast resource here on WF to find someone to record it for you, ending up with a new, professionally done product you can call your own. Nice.

Here's an interesting fun fact about PLR articles and the so-called "duplicate content penalty":

I just bought my first PLR article pack the other day... And just for curiosity's sake, I decided to take the first sentence of one of the articles, and do an exact match Google search to see if the same PLR article was being used, as-is, on other websites.

Lo and behold, over 550 exact match search results came up on different websites, using the same PLR article! I did a random spot check of several of them, and the content is identical among them. So Google definitely has no problems indexing and returning duplicate content in its search results (for exact match searches anyway). I did notice that several of these websites altered the first paragraph here and there, but you can totally tell that these are all originated from the same PLR article.

And just for the fun of it, I did a Google search of the article title without quotes, and found that the first 2 search results were from 2 completely different websites, and all had IDENTICAL, UNALTERED CONTENT. And at spot #3 was an Ezinearticles with the exact same title, but the content had been spun.

So I don't suppose it would be impossible to build up a niche website empire using entirely PLR content. But to play it safe, my personal recommendation would be to:

      1. Read through each PLR article at least once.
      2. Edit each sentence / paragraph a little bit to personalize it.
      3. Alter the title.

It definitely cuts down on the research time and the creative thinking time it takes to write an article from scratch. You can personalize an article and make it "unique enough" that Google still accepts it, in under 5 minutes. (Judging by the example I provided above, Google definitely doesn't have a problem indexing and returning search results for similar PLR content.)
