How much time does website creation take up?

Hey all,

recently Ive been getting interested in internet marketing, specifically making "niche" websites for google adsense. Ive read a few books so far including fatcat blueprint and a number of others.

One thing that puzzles me is the creation of the actual website. My friend who is a programmer has told me even making basic websites like the examples given in fatcat blueprint would take many, many hours of learning HTML and other coding to even begin.

Is this correct? Is it better to outsource the website creation? The author of fatcat says a website costs him 120-150$ dollars to make a website and he says he outsources everything. Is this including website creation or does he make the websites himself?

Thank you.

So old school. Use wordpress - you can learn it in a day and save money and have a skill worth having.

Wordpress, hands down. The times where you needed to hand-code HTML are over, although it wouldnt hurt to know a little.

When it comes to web site creation, the actual creation of the site, content etc. is (in my opinion) not such a big a deal. Its much more tiresome to do link-building etc. and actually try to rank a site afterwards. This could take months and months. A site which is not ranking and getting traffic is otherwise pretty worthless.

    Hi Sean,

Personally, I have never come across this blueprint/product.

However, the above statement made by your friend does not seem in touch with today's very user friendly wordpress sites. I'm assuming these are wordpress sites being built?

The reason I'm stating that is because wordpress was designed for exactly that reason as well - for people with very little or zero knowledge of coding to be able to build/maintain websites easily.

Re your question on outsourcing - it really all depends on if you have the cashflow. However, in the long run yes it's something you'd definitely want to outsource unless this is something you particularly enjoy. :p

Wordpress is incredbly easy to set up, and you can either pick a premade theme from the thousands that exist around the web, or create your own.

I suggest you Thesis theme or Genesis, these are the ones I found more flexible and SEO oriented then any other.

About time consuming: Took me only a saturday evening to learn basically everything needed to know to set up and customize my websites in wordpress ( 3-5 hours max)

Like others I highly recommend Wordpress as it’s fairly easy and takes very little time, the more experienced you become with it the less time it takes. I have several Wordpress sites/blogs that are pulling in money with Ad sense, Clickbank and Amazon and even have Ad sense for domains installed on domains that I haven’t developed into sites. Lets just say that I’m an entrepreneur/business person by trade and certainly not a web designer or a graphic artist, but personally speaking I’ve never been hindered by this fact thanks to Wordpress.

I don't disagree with everyone's recommendation to use Wordpress. However, it's still worth your while to learn a little HTML and CSS so you have enough knowledge to tweak your site.

Then you don't have to hire someone to put in or remove a link, change the color of header text, or add more space between paragraphs in your blog posts.
