Should we even use feeds?

I recently made the rss button on a popular blog easier to use. I changed up the code a little so it's super easy for people to subscribe via feedburner.

Holy cow. I got 61 people subscribed in like about a week.

BUT... there's no way to access these people's email or names. And I feel like it's a waste (obviously not completely)

Ok, so these people get an email/whatever they signed up for, every time I post to the blog, but I feel like it would be better if they were subscribed to my list instead

Of course I have all the other stuff, sign up here, contact me here, etc.

I'm just wondering how you guys use the feeds, if they are a distraction from getting someone to simply sign up or .... I don't know.

I'm tempted to change the coding so that when they click on the RSS it goes to an opt in form instead (but that might be unethical and some people might really love using RSS).

Any comments? How do you handle your RSS buttons. If you just ignore them, when people click they get all this nonsense code that means nothing to the average reader. Yet obviously - people are clicking on them.

hmmm.
