Realtively New Newbie just looking for advice and direction

First post on the forum, a little about myself: Name is Steve I first got my interest in IM from watching a friend at school my freshman year in college, he was making roughly $1000.00/month. At the age of 18 that was life changing money(still kind of is lol) But anyway, I asked him to show me how he did and he responded by saying He couldn't, that it was something hard to teach and little did I know he was more than right. Fast forward a bit and I've been scammed by "google profits"(i think that was the name), tried my hand at cashcrate(paid surveys), fooled around with GDI(MLM) gave Chris Farrel's program a shot but could not afford to keep it going and tried a course about affiliate marketing and spent my time doing nothing like 95% who fail to get started online. But it was a blessing and a curse as I have learned alot just by hangin and lurking on forums like these and this one included. But i have finally joined and like any other "newbie" I am just looking for direction. My mindset is finally improving i KNOW this can work BUT ONLY IF I WORK. It's seen over and over throughout life that systems work but people fail and I'm not just talking about IM. But thats my little rant and rave for now and a little about me. Thanks for listening and I appreciate anyone who takes the time out to help and even anyone who stops just to say hey. Hope to enjoy my stay here and learn how to finally put this IM "thing" to work for me.

-God Bless.
Steve

Hey Steve. Welcome to the forum. It is really hard when you're starting out in this business and it becomes really easy to fall for all the hype.

You need to find something that you like that works for you as far as a course or program to help you along, follow it step by step, and put it into action. Just don't get too caught up in reading all the information you can find or you will never get anything accomplished.

If you need any help or anything, just let me know.

Hey MeganFreed, thanks for reaching out to me. I'm currently undertaking the challenge by Ed Dale. Just getting started with it but liking it so far. It's explained well and I feel confident about it.

Welcome to the WF, Steve! You're really going to love it, and learn a lot with the major expense limited to your time, attention, and putting what you're learning to practical use.

I would suggest reading deep in the areas that interest you most. Almost every question you could come up with has already been answered a dozen times. Even better, you'll find some real gems that way - unintentional "Easter eggs" that you may never get if you just ask the same question again.

Simply read that way for a month or so, then you should be ready to join the War Room.

Good luck Steve. One of the biggest problems is there is so much information out there and it's hard to know what works and what doesn't. A lot of it, you just have to try for yourself.

Good luck mate yep its hard there's so much information overload. For me its about getting focus and determination and getting stuck in. I started with some PLR sites that I'd signed upto (word of advice here you need to buy those that you can edit to make unique to you), started doing article marketing, start a blog in the niche and just get comfortable 'doing it' then move on - hope this helps

Hey bud, I understand your frustration, but like the fact that you saw your friend succeed and want to follow in his footseps.

People always helped me when I was new, and I try and do the same. I just made a post about this in the cpa forum http://www.warriorforum.com/ad-netwo...te-things.html and i did it because of posts like yours.

The moral of the story is this. Find something that you know WORKS, and emulate it. Do what others are doing. Look for the hot topics on the forum and see how people are succeeding. Most importantly, find a way to take action. And by take action i dont mean go to the WSO section and buy five guides.

Whether you become a cpa phenom, web designer, content farmer, or something else, do it and DO IT RIGHT. DON'T re-invent the wheel, just tweak it for your situation. Best of luck.

      Hi Steve,

Welcome to WF and I hope you enjoy your time here.

Like you I'm only really starting out online but from my own experience I've spent hundreds if not thousands of hours over the last 12 months reading forums, downloading ebooks and 'learning' about different methods of IM marketing, the results:
      • I've taken little / no action
      • I've earned no more than I would usually
      • Probably wasted around 10 months that I didn't need to
      • I've forgotten much of my info overload
I've spent that last 2 weeks working on website design and content and my first website should be up within another 2 weeks. I'm going to be selling certain services to local businesses.

      My advice is basically:
      • Choose a method that works
      • Repackage it with your own spin so that it feels comfortable
      • Stick with it until you have proven unequivocally that it won't make you money.
      • Use forums like these for advice but make sure you TAKE ACTION!
There's no point hopping from project to project month by month as each new venture fails. In the long run you'll only become disheartened about IM and lose yourself a fortune.

I wish you all the best for your future in IM.

Good Luck Steve. There is a lot of info out there and it can become difficult to sort the good from the bad.

If you feel yourself making a choice or buying a course out of desperation or fanatical need to earn mega bucks, be wary. I found that I fell for all the glitzy promises of earning crazy money overnight and it just doesn't work that way.

    Good luck and stay sane!!

    Hi,

Look around and get as much free information as you can. Keep away from warrior special offers at least in the short term until you decide what area you want to be involved in and then take action in that area. Be positive and try not to get distracted.
It does work just stay focused.

This thread is posted twice , i just posted this on the other thread however this one seems to be getting more views so i thought i whack it on here to...... I'm also just starting out, have only been in the internet marketing game for only an excess of three or four months. I embarrassingly have only just joined the forum and still don't know how to start a thread , so i just searched for "newbie" and this came up looking like a good place to ask.. just after some advice..

      1. what would be the best way to start out, to just come a custom to making money online, whether it be something from network marketing to something like click bank?

and 2. would it be worth "taking the plunge" with one of those expensive coaching programs? or would i be better off starting small before I go spending big money like that?

ps. HOW DO I START A THREAD LIKE THIS ONE?! do i need a certain amount of posts, i looked in FAQ but the buttons they said to click i cannot find!

      Cheers in advance!!!

I've only recently gotten into the marketing side, and with my niche many of the options simply aren't practical. I can see other niches I'm interested in where these strategies and techniques would be perfect - and some of what I'm currently doing that IS working in my original niche are going to be obsolete or counterproductive. That's just the nature of IM.

It's pretty much the same on the coaching/mentoring thing - it varies from one person to another. That's always an option for me, but I really want to see how far I can go on my own first. (I've already done three successful start-ups in the brick-and-mortar world so that's one advantage many here do not have - for better and for worse. Right now, I'm thinking that most of what I need to learn I can learn here; I know I wouldn't be as confident without previous experience.)

I sent you a PM. Check for the link under you username near the top right of this page.

            Welcome Steve

There's alot of beneficial info in this forum. I would suggest that your first money spent in here is for being war room member. The cost is $30, i believe.

There are a lot of free ebooks, videos, plug-ins, in the war room from some successful warriors...use them.

This way you pay $30 for many, many, beneficial products and you can see what discipline you like best..

Affiliate marketing is probably a good thing for jobless people to engage in because they have more time on their hands than people who have jobs.

I am not among that 95%, thankfully.

Look up training videos on you tube, the ones that DON'T advertise some affiliate product to you. Unfortunately that's what you'll find too much of when you seek advice for making money online.

    Steve,

Before I give you advice.... let me give you my background. I have been in business for myself since 1988 and was on the internet with my business as early as 1999.

I started full-time in internet marketing in 2006 and did almost NOTHING the first 18 months. The problem was information overload.

    1) Unsubscribe from all of your lists except for the top 3. (If you must keep some... open up a separate email account that you check only one day a week and forward the emails there.

    2) NEVER, NEVER buy anything that you are not prepared to use at that EXACT moment. There is NO NEED to buy a course on how to use shopping carts when you have nothing to sell. (I did .)

    3) Focus a minimum of two (2) hours per day on ONE thing.

    4) For every hour you train and learn... take TWO hours and implement what you learned. (This is hard.)

If you master #4 you will find yourself well-off.

Just my opinion, but from experience.

    Best of success,

    George Curtis

A great way to start out in internet marketing is to create your product. There are plenty of affiliates here and elsewhere to sell it for you. You need a website of course for your product, so make sure you build that. Advertise your product here or on other high traffic places online. Use your profits to outsource your SEO and get your site to the top of the search engines.

Yes, in this era, there is information overload. Did you read all of the posts here by the way?

Thus, the question that comes to mind...

Out of so much information, which one can truly make you money?

I think that is the question you have to answer yourself.

Hello Steve, the fact remains that anybody that desires to make money from internet marketing should take it serious and start seeing it as business from day one.

Having said that, I would quickly suggest that you look into yourself and find ONE THING that appeals to you.

Take that passion online and try to turn it into business.

Well when I started my journey in 2008 I also payed with lots of scam money making programs like paid surveys, paid to clik,GDI and they did not work for me for one year.Just move back then and set up few blogs on scholarship niche and apply for adsense and get it but first money came too slowly although it increased from 2010 and now I am making a good amount of money from it.Now in 2011 most of my income comes from freelancing, clickbank and adsense. And my plan is making more money from affiliate programs like clickbank. My suggestion for you is first learn, learn and learn by reading others blog like problogger.net and you will find lots of useful information that you want to know.

I've bought 3 WSOs. All together about $30.

I then decided to get into the war room. Friggen priceless dude. I downloaded an ebook from it last night that was worth easily $35. I mean, it was detailed from top to bottom. Truly a great thing.

So, three peaces of advice including the last one...

Advice #2 One strategy. Stick to it.

Advice #3 Never ever be afraid to ask someone on this forum a question. About 9/10 people will help, and the 10th person will probably help but might also throw out a sales pitch.

Good luck sir, hopefully you won't need it.

    Hi Steve,

An easy way of getting started in IM is to start as an affiliate.

    1. Sign up to Clickbank and find a niche your interested in and maybe know a little about.

    2. Get yourself a free Blogger account and write about that niche, this is why it's better if you know a little about the niche you choose.

    3. Recommend one of your niche products on each post and add your affiliate link.

You can do all this for free, so you can experiment and not lose anything!

And once you've got one blog set up and running, open another free account, find another niche and start again...

Hope you get my drift Steve! (You can buy me a drink when you make your first million )

The only thing I would say is get one and stick with it and really concentrate on it and dont give up. Can be disheartening at times but then you will get there.

There is so much to learn and process and then understand how to implement it. Some people have success instantly, but most get frustrated before they see any money come in and quit. Keep with it. Find a strategy that works and get some success under your belt. It becomes easier, just don't give up!

Information Overload seems to be a key when starting out. I too agree that picking top 3 Guru's or Marketers you respect and only read their emails. Also getting started isn't as hard as people make it to be. Simply pick which niche you are going into and do some research on it. This is free using Google.

Learn how to create a squeeze page or have someone do it for you. Give away a free product and start building your list. This should be done first, most moss this point when starting out online, don't make the same mistake.

There are lots of ways to drive traffic to your squeeze page to get subscribers take 2 or 3 methods and work them until they start producing results. Create a One time offer after people optin to your list, they are redirected to a offer or product can be a Resell Rights Product, PLR, or simply choose one from CLick Bank and make comissions when people purchase.

This method gets you into the money straight away and builds your list, killing 2 birds with one stone..so much more can get into but this should give you a good idea and starting point.. good luck mate!

Hello Steve and welcome to the forums,

I see the others have given you a lot of great information already and I would like to add on to their advice if I may.

I've always said direction is very important when starting a home business, without it the chances of failure is astronomical. My advice son is to start out slow, yes we all have dreams or making thousands per month but like anything else in the world it will come from something small.

If you have any prominent natural talents I would first see about making that into a small business. This road takes little or no costs to start, unless you absolutely need to have a website (although it is rare). From the success of the small business you will most certainly get bigger and better ideas to expand or to create more.

The most important thing I believe is to feed from the initial success this way that nagging voice in our head isn't telling us "we can't" but rather "we can". Best of luck to you son in all your endeavors.
