Is there any value in creating my own social bookmarking site?

Social Monkee is offering a deal where you have a social bookmarking site custom built for you for $50. I happened to look and found a ccTLD I could use to create a branded bookmarking site (ala dlvr.it, bit.ly, etc.) but I'm trying to get my head around the idea. I mean aside from Adsense, is there any value to having my own social bookmarking site? I assume it would just end up being spammed by lots of people who want to free backlinks and likely wouldn't attract many real visitors. Anyone have experience with this?

    No experience here, but I think you are right. It would get spammed to death. If there was some way you could add some real value to people by becoming members that would help.
