Which Internet Marketer Would You Most Like to Have a Beer With?

Not to point out the obvious, but a big part of marketing yourself as a brand (if that's what you're into) is making people like you. Who does it the best?

Because you made the first post in the thread, which was (therefore) at the time also the last post, and your name appeared on the right as well as underneath the heading, I initially read it as "Which Internet Marketer Would You Most Like To Have A Beer With - Ron Douglas?" and instinctively thought "Yes, actually that would do nicely for me".

Not only because you'd be a very good internet marketer to have a beer with, but also because you're a bestselling author (even more interesting, for me), and because I know we've disagreed in the past about a couple of small points and that always makes for a good beer, too (from my perspective, anyway, so I could try to work out why).

So you answered it for me, just by asking.

I've been wanting to ask you a question for a while now. Is that really you in the profile pics you change every so often?

Hmm... a kind of interesting and somewhat strange question.

Honestly, never even considered such a thing.

I drink a beer when I am working on the lawn or tinkering with the mower. I drink a beer when it is a real hot summer day and I just want one. Sometimes, I'll have one with a good friend as we just catch up.

But I'd see no reason to have a beer with any of these Internet marketers. They are not my friends. I don't even really know them. And I definitely have the impression that drinking a beer with them would lead into a sales pitch for their next product.

EDIT: Actually, that is not entirely true. Come to think of it there are two people who I think it might be cool to have a beer with:

        Mike Grant
        Joseph Archibald

I don't know really but they just seem genuine down to earth good people and I think it would be no bs conversation.

Yeah, I never make friends or get to know people over a beer. What a stupid idea that would be.

like a few others ... I will have a beer or a single malt &
engage in anything from witty banter to a serious debate
          at a moments notice

just hope that it would not be 100% marketing talk! too
much focus on that topic on a daily basis ... it would be
nice to get to know more about people than what hosting
they like, auto-responder they use, etc. etc ...

That's why you need to sit and drink with them: to get to know them

I wouldn't be so sure about it...

I had the opportunity to have a drink with a number of posters in the this thread - including the OP Ron Douglas, jacktackett, Willie Crawford and many others who were at the last WF event in Raleigh, NC - and none of them were pitching anything in the bar! It was all fun, jokes, more drinks... and having good time.

If I can, I'll go again to see them.

I would have to say Calvin Woon and Patricia. Calvin seems like such a straight forward guy. He makes some of the best content videos and does not mind sharing some good tips. Plus, He and Patricia offer some of the best paid content and software at such reasonable prices.

Also, it would really be nice to have a beer in Singapore. WOW!!

For the amazing insight I just gained from a 2 hour webinar...of which I could only watch 60 minutes of so far

          James Schramko
          Andy Grand

          These guys rock!

I think these guys gave me hope there are people out there who can market with some ethical practices. There too, I am rather new to Internet Marketing, so I'm sure there's some great names being dropped here!

*The last time I actually got this excited was seeing Zig Ziglar live in Charlote, N.C. back in 1989-1990 (I was 17...yeah...I'm getting old dammit, but I still like cold beer, lol)

P.S.- Great question...I'll be sure to study this thread...

Jan, I have had the exact same thought. I love her profile pics (although her current one doesn't seem to look like the person in the previous ones ? :confused

To answer the question, I'd like to grab a beer with Jan Roos. Mainly because I am putting his course into practice at the moment and would love to chat one on one, show him my sites etc and get feedback. Also he's a fellow South African, so we could chat rugby

Jan, if you're ever in Kwa-Zulu-Natal, drop me a line.

In no particular order, except ladies first.

    Tiffany Dow

    Sam Stephens

The thing they all have in common, beyond the fact that they are all exceptional, customer oriented marketers, is that they are all very genuine people.

    Ron,

I think you have a pretty good handle on things. You would be one I pick... Don't drink beer though, but that wouldn't matter.

Really, almost all of my clients would fall into that category.

    Dave Perdew
    Doug Hudiburg
    Rob Toth
    Sean Gallagher
    Liz Tomey
    Stephanie Mulac
    Sid Hale

    and the list goes on.

Quite a few of the members here too. Great people to interact with.

Actually, I've been fortunate enough to belly up to the virtual bar with a few mentioned. But Alexa isn't on that list, so I may have to arrange a girls night out with her.

EDIT: Look who got their answer in (above) while I was typing

Forget business, forget internet marketing, forget talking shop, just for the sake of having a beer (jack, whisky, vodka), and a great night out that I won't remember in the morning - Caliban Darklock!

Throw business, internet marketing, and talking shop into the mix - Caliban Darklock!

However, let's forget fanatsy, (No Caliban, that does not mean I fantasise about you), I will have to say the first EVER IMer I will actually have a beer with will have to be Richard Van (as we only seem to work/live within about 5 miles from each other). Let me know Rich, I feel a bank holiday (we have 8 days of them coming up in the UK) beer coming on!

Oh S***...and of course, Ron Douglas, Alexa Smith, Rod, Jill...the list goes on. Group hug anyone?

It sure is. Though I'm more of a Don Julio Añejo 1942 tequila-type of guy. Yes, a designated driver or crashing at a hotel would be a must, since I'm usually the "designated drinker" and I never drink and drive.

I cannot believe I forgot to include Allen Says on my list of people who I'd like to have a drink with. I would love to do some tequila shots and smoke a nice Cuban cigar with him. Somebody give me ten lashes with a wet noodle for that one.

Dude, stud, mac daddy, man, I was in Cali for 2 weeks and you are the only person I contacted to meet up and have a beer with. I'll be there soon again since Bill McIntosh is my partner out there and lives in Orange County. maybe next time?

True, but only in the short term-with all the marketing gems that would be dropping at that party, it's an easy tax write-off

He has probably had the biggest impact on my business even though I have never actually met him in person.

        Hey Shannon,

I've had the pleasure of having a beer with Willie on two different occasions. He's definitely a good choice.

I'm not sure if he drinks much anymore. The last time I saw him he had changed his diet, dropped some pounds and was looking pretty svelte.

Gauher's not very well known here, and I think that's mostly because his courses are primarily about CPA and paid traffic (which really aren't that popular here) - he does know his stuff, though.

I can't think of anyone I wouldn't want to have a beer with.

Or a glass of wine. Or a bottle of whisky. Or rum. Or vodka. Or gin.

What the hell, if there's going to be drinking, go ahead and count me in.

This is a good question. Are we assuming that bud light, budweiser, miller light, and coors light count as beers, or are we calling them rice water, which is what they really are?

I, myself, would only share a beer with those internet marketers that have respect and love for the darker porters and, of course the best beer ever brewed, Guinness.

I would have to say Caliban Darklock. I get the feeling it would be like
talking with my long lost brother of another mother.

Unfortunately, I don't drink anymore. My band playing days and almost turning
into an alcoholic put an end to that many years ago.

So it would have to be either bottled water or some ginger herb tea.

Oh by the way Caliban, I lost my voice due to my latest bout with whatever
the f*ck I just had so you may be on your own Friday.

  • Probably have to be my age range for my liking. Which would include:

    Daniel Brock
    George Brown
    Alex shelton
    Alexa Smith

    And so forth...

Unfortunately no marketing talk would happen because I'd be too busy trying to setup a game of touch cup to get the group trollied off vodka

    THE RULES

    1. There are no friends in Touch Cup - this is one important rule, as has been explained to me many times if you complain that people are picking on you!
    2. Everyone is set with an entry fee for the game - this is usually 2pints of a specified beverage, it is played with Snakey B for maximum effect & utter ruinage!
    3. A smaller cup is taken (preferably 1/2 pint) and is filled with the selected beverage.
    4. Players must aim to bounce a 5p off the table in front of you and into the glass. A successful shot means that you get to nominate a player to down the drink.
    5. It is then taken and re-filled, and the game continues.

    PENALTIES (LINKED TO RULES)

    1. At any time when you are about to touch the 1/2 pint glass, either to move it to a better position, pass it to your opponent or down the drink you must call "Touch Cup"
    2. If you bounce the 5p off the table and it lands on the floor you incur a penalty of downing the drink.
    3. If you bounce the 5p over the glass and into another one on the table (say a pint glass) then you must finish that drink!
    4. When the coin is bounced off the table and clips the glass rim, but does not go in, another player must call "RIM CHALLENGE." This means that the player now has another shot at getting the 5p into the glass - failure to do so means he/she drinks, upon success, the unfortunate person who called the challenge finishes the drink.
    5. If you finish the last drink, i.e there is no more drink to fill the glass, then you must purchase a chosen amount of drink (usually a pint or 2) to continue play.
    6. A player that forgets to remove the 5p from the bottom of the glass, and then start refilling the cup has to fill it up, and then down the drink again.

It is possible to incur more than one penalty at a time, i.e. a player does not call "TOUCH CUP" before he/ she picks up the glass and then puts down the glass immediately.

This game is best played in the student union where Snakey B seems to flow on tap!

Anyone who feels like a challenge (be it from Portsmouth uni or outside) can play the legend that is Fraggy - serious players can play Sourz, but he refuses to drink Snakey B and only play it with shots (Messy!!!).

Please let me know if I have missed any rules out and this will be updated - it's getting late and I think I may have forgotten something!

    NEW RULES ADDED:

Two new rules have started to be added to Touch cup games as standard now - and they were popular rules if players got the opportunity to nominate their own rules.

    They are:
    1. The reciever rule. A player may only recieve the 5p by picking it up off the table. An attempt to recieve the 5p off another player means that you drink as soon as the 5p enters your hand.

    2. The Camel Hump. Players call "Camel" if the coin bounces over the glass and on to the other side of the table. When this is called the player has another chance to get it in or they drink - the same as the Rim challenge rule
Some one always ends up having such a bad game they get so smashed that the rules start playing against them

I used to play quarters with my one-year AA chip.

I never actually quit drinking. I just kept being told I had to go to AA, and somehow they don't really seem to give a damn whether you're sober or not. You can go in every week and say "I left the meeting last week and did tequila shots all night at Hammerjack's," and they just smile and nod and keep giving you chips.

These days, if I don't drink for an entire week, people start asking if I'm okay and threatening to do an intervention. It's much easier to keep drinking, which sets their minds at ease.

Could be you're like my 2nd favorite comedian - Doug Stanhope. He makes the point that he's a funnier, better person when he drinks. His friends don't like him when he's sober. LOL

My favorite comedian, for the 3 of you who might care, is Brian Regan. His bit about going to the kid's party is probably the funniest non-dirty stand-up bit ever delivered. Ever.

Oh, and I do love it, even if I rarely taste it anymore. I've been drinking that stuff since college about 25 years ago. We'll have to grab a shot, since we're just about right around the corner from each other.

That "whack-a-mole" stuff is actually made from avocado pears, with some spices and stuff (and Peter Mandelson doesn't know what mushy peas are at all) - I'm "just saying".

              ROFL!

Probably a good thing, though. Mandie wouldn't know guacamole from mushy peas if the latter gave him "gassy anal seepage"; and if he had that, he'd just become confused about the appropriate orifice in which to use his toothbrush.

(Not that I'm much better: a few years ago, I saw a photograph of a nacho grande platter, and thought the guacamole was mushy peas! :p)

EDIT: On a brighter note, at least he's not too posh for green custard:

I'm going to add Jimmy D. Brown to my tequila shot list. I bought some old cassette tapes on e-mail marketing from him a few years ago (the information is still very relevant in today's marketing world) and he was one of the nicest, down-to-earth marketers I've ever talked to.

Since then, his e-mails have always had the same tone. I don't know if he drinks, but I'd slam some shots with him.

I shudder to imagine the sheer, immeasurable scale of intense, collective disappointment that'd surround this thread (and, indeed, probably plague the whole forum) if Alexa were to come and announce that she's actually averse to the idea of drinking alcohol. As long as they pay the beer I'll drink with anyone

Good question though but not too hard to answer I got a few guys I'd like to get drunk with...

#1- Tim Buchalka- Just a nice person, very helpful and smart too. Seems like the kind of guy who doesn't want to live up to the Guru name, seems like a guy who enjoys more than just one beer.

#2- Felix Kelly- The jerk himself, he comes out as rough and obnoxious but deep down inside he's a pretty nice guy (don't tell him I said that). Besides, he could get me the expensive imports :p

#3- Mike Lantz- Not trying to kiss-butt here but who wouldn't??

Well, let me be tellin you how the old bomiska flops...

I would set down with ole Mr. Scratch hisself if he was a drinkin moonshine!

Lots a you folks have been mentionin Kevin Riley and I wants you to be knowin somethin. I had Mr. Riley down here on the farm a while back an all he wanted to do was be wonderin around behind the little critters! I'm not so's sure I'd want to be havin too many drinks with him! He DID have a sip a shine with me and he passed plumb out before it hit his belly! The only liquor that there feller can hold is his tongue!

Now as far as any folks in the WF goes, I thank I would have me a sit down with Mr. Paul Myers an sip a little shine! I thank he could even handle a sip or two! Now, the only fork in the road with that is that I am afraid that after he started feelin a bit whooptydooed, all he would want to be doin is be watchin Dr. Who episodes on the tellie! Been's we don't have no electricity around these here parts, I am afraid poor old mama would wear herself out hand crankin that there hand cranked generator!

As for wimmin folk here in the WF, I am thankin I would want to be havin a sip with that there Subbacariel. Have you seen that there gal's picture? DANG, I shore would be swappin tabacky juice with her any ole time!

Stephen Pierce, I want to hear more of his stories, failures and triumphs. What I like about him is he always focuses on the marketing aspect without the techy side.

Didn't even have to think about this one...

I'd love to sit down and have a brewskie with Andre Chaperon. Very genuine and down to earth guy who gives it to ya straight. No nonsense. Nothing.

The guy's a class act, and putting aside the fact that I've learned a ton from him, his personality and willingness to help puts him above the rest in my opinion.

I actually had one beer with Armand Morin a few years ago and it was a very nice experience. Real guy, no bs.

There are a few other names that come to my mind, but I'd like to spend a few hours with Marlon Sanders. I like his "old school" way. (Probably because I am old school too)

Currently I am following a lot to Jason Fladlien (Jason you got me!), he is relatively new, but definitely A league.

And if "not strictly Internet Marketing" works, the most interesting expert I have ever listened to is Jay Abraham (it was the only thing worth at the Dan Kennedy seminar, frankly).

I don't know exactly if I'd want to have a beer with him, but I'd really love to meet Aaron Wall and learn a thing or two from him. I don't really understand why nobody here seems to talk about him but the dude's basically a genius. His blog is brilliant and I can't understand for the life of me how he's able to pump them out so frequently.
