Are you a bug on the windshield or a CLASSIFIED success?

I've seen many successes and failures with this method, so let's hear your experience:

Have you used classified ads in the newspaper, or on a newspapers website before? For anything, be it CPA offer, web design service, video creation, SEO, WHATEVER??

Did you end up like a bug on the windshield and get lost in the shuffle, or did you have success??

LETS HEAR SOME STORIES!! (*grabs a cold one*)

I tried it for few weeks and it never converted. The classified section was already filled with lot of spam, plus sticking ratio was also very low. It never worked for me

I haven't had much success with classifieds for the same reasons ankur sharma mentioned.

it's great for local stuff, but for advertising its almost pointless.

I'd also like stories on advertising in the newspaper OUTSIDE of the classified section. So maybe a weight loss CPA offer in the Health section of the paper.

    Stuff like that..

Amazon products especially seasonals such as right now would be home and garden do very well in classified ads. I have been using http://nationwideclassifieds.com (including magazine classifieds) for many years just using simple classified ads with a weblink. Also, I frequently submit articles for additional (and free) advertising.

Please expand. You sell the products as an amazon affiliate?

It really is just a matter of driving traffic to a sales page, of which I also offer an optin for additional "special offers". Sometimes the affiliate link is simply forwarded from a TLD such as .info, which you can buy for a dollar per domain.

To get ideas for products to sell and how to advertise, just look in the classified ads section of any large metro newspaper. Most of those products, if not all, can be found on Amazon.

I have had some success with craigslist of driving traffic to a squeeze page. Craigslist is great if your market is geotargeted, but since it's free there are a lot of ads and and yours keeps rolling off the first page.

It takes a lot of effort to make sure your ad is seen, so you need to stay on top it when you could use your time else where.

    Jeremy,
When I had my brick and mortar store I used the classified ads a few different times.
I found the most effective obnes for my business, computer repair and services, were the 1 inch by 1 inch ads.
The little 2or 3 lines didn't get results for me.

Thought I'd get more feedback. I have a thread in the cpa forum where I'm posting a case study of an individual using classified ads to scale his cpa business.

Just was curious if there were other success stories out there. It seems people need assistance on selecting the right time, location, and sections to advertise in -- along with copywriting to gather an audience.

Classified ads have their place in a good marketing plan but I would not just rely on them totally,I use my local Kijiji to post my physical products I offer.

You really need to buy at bulk rates to stretch your budget are far as you can and get max exposure. AdvertisingResults.com is a good source.

I posted the case study if anyone is interested. its just an example from awhile back demonstrating how my buddy James made some good cash by advertising in newspapers:

no affiliate link or product, just me sharing some insight.

I haven't had much luck driving quality traffic from classifieds. I still put them out there and tie them to a squeeze page....but my results are minimal compared to other methods.
