Twitter Spam And Moderating The Warrior Forum

There are often 'lively' threads where the question of consistency of moderation crops up.

Paul Myers usually points out that not everything is black and white and it boils down to a judgement call by the individual moderator. If you think that judgement call is easy to make, check out this article about Twitter's "Trust and Safety" team.

      Martin,

To me, the most telling line in the piece was this:
The most useful resource in fighting spam, it turns out, is Twitter's users - via the "Report Spam" button found on every user's page.
      Sound familiar?

That button is what makes it possible for us to keep the spam and similar issues to a relative minimum here. Add in the ability to turn off sig files to discourage the human automation of paid posters working for offshore "SEO" (read: link spamming) firms, and we've got some leverage.

Where it really gets difficult is the folks who mean well but can't form a comprehensible sentence in English. I don't mean their grammar is rough. That's not really a problem. I'm talking about folks who genuinely can't make their points or ask their questions in a way the majority of people here could decipher.

Deleting those posts is not fun. Still, it needs doing. They're not going to gain or contribute by posting here, and the posts themselves just end up looking like verbal litter.

        Paul,

I didn't realize we had so many politicians on the forum.

Martin, You know talking politics isn't allowed here in the main forum.
