Successful promotion of books or kindle as an Amazon affiliate?

I was wondering, after reading several people's recent posts about Amazon.com's affiliate program (I remember when they introduced their "associate" program back in their early days. my how things have evolved), it got me thinking.

Amazon started with books, and books have somewhat evolved into kindle and similar readers.

Amazon has grown to encompass so wide a variety of products, I am wondering if anyone still makes any significant returns promoting books, especially in the fiction genres, whether hardcoper (hardcover or paperback) or kindle varieties?

I would like to hear from any warrior who has, in the last year or so, felt they had success with such products.

I'll admit, I'd like to pick your brains, but I'll be content with any admissions, confessions, denials or other such related tales you might have to offer on the matter.

I sure don't. I have some Amazon sites and sometimes people will buy a kindle book, but when they are priced below 5.00 there is no commission to be made. That's my take on it anyways.

I tried the Amazon affiliate program and made a little money...

Honestly it's not really worth it in my opinion when you are only getting around 4% commissions...

But hey, there are a ton of people on this forum that make ten's of thousands with Amazon...it just has never worked for me....

My bread and butter is SEO
