Putting off boring tasks again

Anyone else surf, listen to music, clean the office, etc., when you really should be getting something done, but your task ahead is so boring you hate to do it?

I'm sure I'm the only one.

  • haha, yeah that is when you should outsource that type of work
  • I outsource my office cleaning to the "old man"!

He's fairly nifty with a feather duster
  • Yeah, and sometimes I just force myself to do it, and I usually end up with sub-par results. In times like this I just put off that work and work on it when I'm in a better mood. ANd yeah for all those ultra repetitive tasks, it's outsourcing for me...
  • Sometimes I do goof off.

  • Haha, glad to know that I'm not the only one part of "the club". Someone rightly said - you don't do it because its not a MUST.

A way that I've found very useful personally is chunking. Something like - if you have to go on a walk, and you're in no mood to - tell your brain that you're going for a walk for just 5 minutes. Once you get in the state of doing it, you'll do it for much longer than that.
  • I'm always putting stuff off, in fact its one of my goals to change the way I work in 2009.

    • I think the secret is not to tell yourself that you are going to do the whole thing. Just get started with the intent that you are going to start it and that is all.

Of course, after you start working you find it a lot easier to continue doing so.
