Paypal Problems - India

This is not for me but a friend of mine in India. He has been having problems with his paypal account recently. Not being able to accept money and not being able to pay for anything using paypal.

The account is a premier account and linked to a credit card. Anyone know how to solve this?

      Hi,

According to new Payapl Policy now the Paypal is not being the good option available in India. The Paypal users in India now not able to receive money using paypal balance from anyone. The only way is the sender use the credit card for payment. Also for transaction amount greater than 500$ is not acceptable. Your friend can see more on the Paypal Blog also for details.

Due to some disagreements between the Indian government and paypal, paypal has limited its usage for Indian users. Now they can't purchase anything online with their paypal accounts nor can they receive big amounts. The limit is $500, they can't receive denominations bigger than that. Apart from that, I've also heard they won't be able to transfer any money from their account to others'. Its a big blow to Indian freelancers and I think they will move to AlertPay and other alternatives.

PayPal has virtually cutoff PayPal Indian users at the moment. Payments to India have been maxed out at $500 US. Second, PayPal India users are no longer able to keep funds in their online PayPal account. The money must be placed in their bank accounts within seven days. If anybody there wants to purchase something using their PayPal account, they will first have to upload funds using their credit card or bank account into their PayPal account and then make the purchase. There's other issues here as well, but mostly this all came about because of rules set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Yes PayPal sucks in India. I am thinking to use Plimus instead of PayPal for accepting Payments. PayPal is almost over for me now.

All money flowing across Indian borders is subject to two major laws. The Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and the Payments and Settlements Act of 2007. According to those laws, organizations like PayPal should have submitted themselves to scrutiny by the RBI. They hadn't, so they were pulled up.

The Reserve Bank of India has now sent a detailed questionnaire to PayPal that they are expected to answer by April 30, 2010. If PayPal is unable to satisfy the regulators, Alpana says, “their operations could be disrupted again.

Even I had experienced the same problems. Infact I was forced to stop paypal account which was registered in India coz of new RBI rules. It is a big blow to paypal too but more, it is really embarassing now to switch to new platforms
