Flipping an Amazon Site

Hey Guys,

I know there are a million variables and I'm not asking "exactly how much is this site worth" but I'd love to hear from anyone who has had experience flipping a site or opinions in general.

I've got an amazon review site, nice theme, 10 x 500 word unique articles on a sporting/outdoor niche. With spring coming it will probably do quite well.

It has an exact match (no dashes, no extra crap) .org domain name with 3600 exact match searches per month.

Currently it ranks #5 for it's primary keyword and gets some other long tail traffic for an average of about 30-40 unique visitors daily.

It's making sales on amazon but not a great deal because the traffic hasn't been huge but I'm sure with some more SEO pushing and the spring weather coming on it will most likely do very well.

Honestly I'd love to hang onto this site, but I've got a few other projects that could REALLY use a cash infusion at the moment and I'm tempted to sell it.

Just wondering, based on what I've told you guys what one might expect to see out of this site at auction? Or what would be a realistic but it now price?

Cheers,

Rob

Well, thing is that a lot of buyers on Flippa are looking for passive income sites. It seems that with you Amazon site the buyer would need to update it regularly or am I mistaken?
As for revenue, that is the real price maker. You didn't state what revenue you are making but from my experience you can rake in between 9-15 times the monthly revenue.

This is a basic price outline and ofcourse some things depend on domain name, SEO value etc. But the main thing here is revenue.

    Hope that made sense

Its simple math. If your site is making $10 profit, you can sell it for $80 (minimum) $120 maximum.

Multiply your profits with the factor of 8 or 10. If you got PR for site, add more $$$.

@mark - yep that makes sense and is sort of what I thought. I figured maybe however since the EMD domain and design is quite nicer than a lot of the other junk I've seen going on there for $100-150 that it would be worth a bit more.

The site makes $10-20 a month currently

A realistic buy now price would probably be $300 to $400 max given the exact match domain, the potential, current revenue and design.

If the site is ranked no.5 for it's primary keyword, and is only making $10-$20 a month, how much realistically do you think the site could earn if it was ranked in the top 3?

Is it based around just one product, or could you add more related products?

Do the product names get searches?

Is the site seasonal, or would it make sales all year round?

The exact match domain is a good thing (as long as it doesn't contain any trademarked names), but if the site is already ranked no.5 I'm wondering how much potential the site has to earn more.

$300 - $400 seems steep to me... it's all about traffic and sales figures IMHO.

If you want to skip the Flippa process and sell here, PM me your asking price and the URL and I will take a look. Also, if you have any additional exact match domains you want to sell, let me know.

$300-$400 BIN would actually be perfect. It is over the realistic value but not extremely crazy. With the right bonuses like 6months free hosting (auto upsale after 6 months) 20x monthly revenue have been paid before.
But most importantly it creates a different perceived value for a prospect.

A Flippa buyer is often times looking for a 'bargain' andif you already make the BIN price a realistic 10x-12x the monthly value the bidding will progress harder because nobody wants to pay the 'full price' of the BIN.
With a relatively high BIN you can make bidders feel like their bid under the BIN is somewhat of a 'bargain'.

I hope that makes sense. It is midnight over here and I am beat haha.

    Hi Hamida,

In my experience with my other amazon sites, the difference from a #5 ranking to a #1 ranking can literally mean %100 percent or more increase in sales.

For instance I have a review on another site that jumps between #4-#1 when it's in #1 position it means 150-200 uniques a day for that keyword and a ton of sales and when it's in #4 it means about 10-15 visitors a day and maybe no sales...

In fact, asking people in the forum to value your site may not be a wise thing to do.

As you can see there is some much different opinion on it

Go to the market and list it for sale

Let the market tell you how much they are willing to pay for your site.

That is the most realistic way to get an evaluation on pricing

    I hope this help

I don't think he wants to give it away. Nice to have an idea what it is worth before listing.

    Thanks everyone for the responses.

@aaron - agreed but I guess I was more looking for what would be a reasonable BIN price.

After thinking it over, considering the niche and the work thats gone into the site already I'll probably just hang on to it and see how it performs when it's "in season"

    Thanks again everyone,

    Rob
