The Importance Of Proofreading Your Article or Website Copy!

It is so vitally important to have copy on your website in perfect English, with absolutely NO spelling, grammar or punctuation errors.

A page full of English mistakes can turn a potential prospect off faster than lightning - leaving them hitting the back button.

I found this video and thought I would share it with you. It is probably the best video in the world on the the impotence of proofreading.

      Seriously, it is so annoying to try and read an article with errors in it. They're just like speed bumps to your eyes!

    Thanks for the video, was good!

    Although, typos do make you remember the webpage more and make you seem less serious and more casual. I might try slipping a couple in my copy occasionally....

    Saying that, any body spotted any typos in my wso (sig)? I've already corrected 3 of them (which is rather embarrassing to be frank ).

    It's always "their" and "there" that get me, as well as "it's" and "its". I can never tell when to use "effect" and "affect" as well.

      their... e and i are roommates. That's THEIR property.
      there... the roommates are apart, WHERE one is the other isn't THERE (at the place)

      it is always it's if you drop a letter to bring the 2 words together.

      something can be Affected (A - it is ACTED UPON)
      something can have that Effect (E - EVOKES an outcome)

      See if something like that helps

      In most instances, affect is a verb and effect is a noun.

      It had no effect.

      It affected me.

      When effect is a verb, it actually means to make something come into being.


      Anyway, I agree that proofreading is important. I can't even take someone seriously if they say or write "anyways." It's an instant turn off.

    Another common one is "Lose" vs "Loose"

    Your shoelaces can become loose and will need to be retied.

    You lose your keys and become annoyed.

    People seem to mix the two up frequently

    Another one that frequently gets misused: 'Lay' and 'lie'.

    My teacher always said (in a very sarcastic tone, I might add), "Chickens LAY eggs! People 'LIE' down!"



    "I will lay this note on the table for you."

    "I'm tired. I think I will lie down."
