Young Warrior Needs Some Advice

Hello everyone,

I have finally taken the plunge and decided to register on the Warrior Forum. I am a 16 year old student from Australia and became very interested in internet marketing a few months ago.

I have started this thread because I have some general questions and some questions concerning age in relation to Adsense and domain/web hosting. It would be great if any other young warriors or warriors with children involved in internet marketing could add their first hand experience.

1. Because I am under 18 I am not legally allowed to have an Adsense account. I researched around and found that I am able to make the Adsense account in my parents name, as they are not currently involved with Adsense. Once I turn 18 I will move out and make my own account. Could any Warriors recommened this method, and will it effect my parents (tax etc)?

2. Can a person under 18 buy domain/webhosting through a PayPal Student Account?

Thank you all

    Hi uberr

    Welcome to the forum.

Can't help with question number 1

as for question number 2 , I have never come across age limitation when buying a domain or hosting , is there any particular reason you have not just gone ahead and try register something to see if it hold true?

    To your success.

Here is what you could do to add adsense to your account.

You could be transparent with your parents about what you are doing and have them open an account on which you add their adsense codes to your site and they pay you on the commissions. I know, that thought of being honest with your folks and them knowing what you are doing and sharing the website with them is a downfall, but sometimes you do things you must to make business happen.

As for the tax thing, well - once you move out you are typically responsible for your own taxes. If they are declaring you as a dependent then they will likely still need to report your income in there somewhere. But I have to mention that A. I am not a resident of your country, and B. I am not a tax attorney.

As for point #2 - you might want to just call paypal on that.

    • I'm 23, reminds me what I did a while ago.

The best thing I can say to you is concentrate on your education first and see this as a hobbie.

You're so young, you want to try and succeed in the offline world to some degree before you become more serious in Internet Marketing.

It is just the same as running an offline business, takes an awful amount of skill, knowledge and in some cases just outright luck.

As so many people underestimate its difficulty and fail, I wouldn't put all your eggs in one basket. I'd try and go to university/college and get a couple more qualifications and set yourself up for a career offline whilst in your spare time learning the different techniques and tricks.

If you haven't already, a great thing to do is to sign up for the war-room right here on this forum. I see the war room as more of a library for me to study techiques, tips and tricks in internet marketing. It'll take several years of learning but in the end, it'll be worth it!

Regarding #1 if you are under the legal limit which I don't know what it is in Australia you cant have an adsense account since you have to be able to receive funds and submit tax stuff.

Anyways I would put it under your parents name, explain to them what your doing and it should be fine.

Hey buddy, great to see you get into this stuff! I'm also an Aussie, and am currently 18 but I started getting into this stuff (mainly mucking around with adsense) around 3 years ago. So I was 15.

    1) I was able to make adsense accounts on my own name, it didn't require any DOB so I was allowed. As long as you have a bank account in your name you should be able to cash the check in no worries too. If they ask for DOB and you have to be 18+ then you will probably have to do it under the name of a parent, or older person you know. Yes it will affect their tax here in Australia because it's additional income. I suggest you do it under someone who is retired/not working at the moment, because then they have up to 6k to earn without paying any tax. Honestly though you should be able to do it under your name mate, and have no problems. Even for yourself, up to 6k is tax free. Remember if you're going to pay tax, then you can deduct back all your expenses, like hosting, domains, programs, etc. You only pay tax on profit!

    2) Yes you can make buy domain/hosting as yet again, they dont ask for DOB, so it's fine. I also paid through Paypal when I did it. But here's my question to you now.
How do you have a PayPal account under 18? I've never heard of these student accounts, and when I paid for mine, I used a PayPal account of someone else I knew. Because you have to be over 18 and they ask for DOB.

Anyway, get into it man, there are no restrictions for you except stuff to do with credit cards only (I know because I was in the EXACT same position). The only thing I didn't touch was PPC, and I still don't. You can purchase everything on PayPal and you can put it all under your name.

*EDIT: I should also add, Google Adsense's only restrictions really are those imposed by the country. Here in Australia, you are now over the legal age to earn an income, so get a tax file number as well. You won't need to give it to Google though, because they only collaborate with US regarding tax. Like I said before, just keep receipts/invoices/check receipts etc. of all your income and expenses, and fix it up at tax time (if you're earning more than 6k PROFIT).*

If you have anymore questions feel free to PM me directly if you want. Also, where abouts in Australia are you? You in Melbourne? Great to see another young gun get into this stuff Good luck.

*EDIT: Also note, I am NOT an accountant, so I am basing the above advice on my own personal experience and what I've learned from researching. Things may have changed now, so in the end you should seek professional advice if you're really caught up on it.*

Just a FYI, Google doesn't ask for your date of birth when you apply for an Adsense account (at least they didn't when I applied), so if you don't volunteer your age then they won't find out unless you do something really stupid. Worst case scenario, you get caught and your account gets suspended, but I find that extremely unlikely.

    Regarding this question:

    2. Can a person under 18 buy domain/webhosting through a PayPal Student Account?
I honestly have no idea what a Paypal Student Account is. But if it works like other paypal accounts then you should have no problem at all (btw - I have a hosting offer here that makes us cheaper than HostGator and we take Paypal, see my sig).

Buying a domain should be about the same, Godaddy lets you pay with Paypal and they're one of the big registrars that most people go through (I personally have 87 domains registered with them, all paid for via Paypal as I don't like giving out my credit card info).

Thank you all for your great replies and advice.

I'm going to be transparent with my parents and sign up under the name of my parent is who not working. I doubt they will say no. I looked over the Adsense sign-up and they are specific about the Payee name and age requirements, and read on the Adsense forums that they do follow up and check.

@n0thsa Hey man, I'll be sure to PM you with my questions, and it would be great to hear about your IM story.

For those wondering a PayPal Student Account is an account where a parent has control over your purchases and money being sent to you.

Dude if you really want to make big money, I would not recommend trying to do it through adsense. There much better ways with much better payouts. Just a pointer

      Hey,

I think you must adhere to follow the google adsense rules as they can investigate your activities, and if they found you are not eligible your account will be banned permanently. This is very risky!

    1. I don't dare to answer this question.
    2. As of this question, I am not sure if you can or not. Anyway, if you get a student account, then surely your parents will know what you are doing right? Wouldn't it be better if you just told them that you are going to buy domain and hosting? Then they could easily use their credit card, and you can pay them back easily. After all, the ones that are putting the cash in the Paypal student account should be them, or not you could have not created this account.

P/s - I don't know much about this paypal student account. I didn't even know it existed! (Just googled it!) When I just started out IM when I was 16, I used my sista's Paypal account to do so

    Cheers!
