How I Made Sales in MINUTES

We've all heard some version of "The Profit Is In The List".

And for folks that are new to IM, you may be wondering how much of that is hype and how much of that is reality.

I wanted to give you an example of something I just did that demonstrates the power of AutoResponders, the importance of list building, and how you can use AutoResponders to help your own business.

Today, I decided that I wanted to run a promotion to my subscriber list to see if I could bring on some new clients. I've built a list of a little more than 6,300 subscribers and this list is interested in learning how AutoResponders can help them boost sales.

Using nothing more than some of the techniques I teach our members, I did the following:
  1. I created an AdTracker URL because I knew I would want to track the results of the broadcast I was going to create.
  2. I loaded a few graphics to my AutoResponder account because I knew I wanted to polish up my broadcast message a bit to make it stand out.
  3. I created my message using the WYSIWYG Editor in my AutoResponder.
  4. I linked the graphics and links in my message to the AdTracker URL I created in step 1.
  5. I scheduled a Broadcast to go out "Now" in my AutoResponder.

That was around 1PM this afternoon. (I'm writing this on Monday, Dec 15, 2008.) I would estimate that it took me around an hour or so to create the full message.

By 3:53PM, here is what has happened, so far:
  • My broadcast has gone out.
  • 20 people have clicked the link in my Broadcast message.
  • My sales count for the day has already gone up. I actually started seeing clicks and sales happening within 20 minutes of scheduling my broadcast!

Do you get what just happened?

By focusing on building my list of targeted subscribers, I was able to create a message and quickly broadcast it out to those subscribers. I started seeing sales come in within minutes (before the Broadcast was completed!).

This is why I am so focused on and passionate about building my lists. As your list grows, you will be able to use this same technique to bring in sales literally any time you like.

The key is to build your list of targeted subscribers. Be sure you are giving them relevant and valuable information so that they look forward to receiving your messages.

And always ... ALWAYS ... track your results.

Once you have learned how to apply these techniques and you have built up a good list, your AutoResponder literally works like your own online ATM. By sending a targeted well-written offer to your subscribers, you can begin generating new sales at the click of a button.

NOTE: Before saving this message, I checked my AdTracker stats again. I now have 23 clicks on that message that was sent out via the Broadcast feature!

I have no doubt that you can begin experiencing these same results in your own business as your list and your experience level grow.

So remember to focus on building your lists, building your lists, and building your lists, because .... "The Profit Really Is In The List!

    To add to what Brian has just said (thanks Brian) I've been running a special
    this week for Christmas, selling stuff to my list dirt cheap. I figured I'd
    probably get some folks who have been holding out because of the higher
    prices and thus may have never reached them anyway.

    Well, after just 2 days, I've made several hundred dollars from each email.

    Now think about this.

    The products have already been created, so no work there.

    The sales pages were already done when they initially launched, so no
    work there.

    The email ad I wrote took me all of 10 minutes, if that.

    10 minutes work a day for about $300 a day extra over what I would have
    normally made...all because I took the time to build my list.

    I made $2k in the last few days for a single email promotion with NO follow-up emails.

    That's the power of a big AND responsive list.

    I'm interested in what guys like Ewen Chia are doing - I'm guessing near $10k or above in sales per email solo.

    THAT is awesome, Steven. And a perfect example of the value of sticking with it, building your lists, creating your own products, etc...

    I see too many people that give up too quickly. To quote Woody Allen, "80% of Success is just showing up." I think the other 20% must be to just stick with it!

    Just another example that email marketing is not "Dead"
    Infact, far from it, its rocking crazy!

    May I know was this an affiliate promotion or a product one? I think some lists are more responsive to your own produce rather than "recommendations".

    The promotion was for my own AutoResponder service.

    The offer has been very well received. Since posting the original message, the number of clicks and sales have both continued to climb. I suppose people are getting home from work now and going through their emails.

    Email Marketing is FAR from "dead".

    So my theory seems to be correct. Folks are getting home from work and reading their emails now.

    Awesome stuff. One of the things I love about having a list is that it truly is an asset to your business. People may come and go from your website, but with a list you can communicate to them when you want.

    Goes to show how important list building is for a long term business

    Hi, Brilliant. Personally, I can stop with:

    "Guaranteed to work even if you're "un-motivated"..."

    I don't believe in such things. There isn't a system that works if you're unmotivated. Strictly speaking, there isn't a system that "works".

    If YOU don't work, you won't succeed. Systems are available to help you work more efficiently and more effectively, but if you are unmotivated and don't do something (such as build your lists and market to them), you won't be successful.

    And it just keeps getting better.

    This morning, I woke up (late) to discover that my ad has pulled in 39 responses since sending it out yesterday and sales continue to climb. In fact, yesterday was our 2nd biggest day in the past month.

    Today looks to be on track to set a new record already and it's not even noon yet!

      Hi, Louis...

      I suppose some could look at that and say "Yeah ... that's low." Others will look at it and say, "I sure wish I had 40 people clicking MY ad!"

      Whether that number is "low" or "high" isn't really the point. I looked at the stats again before typing this reply and the click-through's are now at 44 so far. I say "so far" because, based on my experience, people will continue opening their emails over the next several days so that number will just keep going up.

      Since launching this broadcast at around 1PM yesterday...
      • SO FAR ... I can confirm 329 people have opened the message. Open rate tracking is really just an estimate based on a number of factors. The reality is that, most likely, more people opened the message but may have had images blocked or received the message in plain text.
      • SO FAR ... 44 people have clicked the link to my site.
      • SO FAR ... we set a new record for yesterday and it looks like we're about to set another one today.

      Had I taken more time on the message, I might have been able to see even higher numbers faster. (That will be my next goal). But don't let that confuse or detract from the point of my post.

      The point (for me) is this:

      Building your list makes it EASY to generate sales "on demand".

      Cost to Send To This List: $0.00
      (Beyond the cost of advertising to build the list and the monthly subscription of $17.95 for the AutoResponder.)

      Time Spent Creating Sales Message: About an Hour

      Knowing sales came in while I was sleeping: PRICELESS

      Knowing sales will continue to come in while I'm coaching basketball tonight: PRICELESS

      Knowing I can do this over and over again: PRICELESS

      Knowing I can track the results and make changes to improve those results: PRICELESS

      359 Emails Opened (so far)
      55 Clicks on Ad that was sent out on Monday.

      Clicks on Dec 15: 31
      Clicks on Dec 16: 16
      Clicks on Dec 17: 8 (so far)

      Highlights:

      I sent this broadcast out on Monday around 1PM.
      Today (Wed), I'm still seeing results.

      Ask me again why I love Email Marketing!

      I've got quite a few lists, actually. I've been doing Email Marketing with AutoResponders for 8+ years. This particular list has just been in "let it build" mode. I've been messing with this one for about 5 years.

      Other lists range from a few hundred to a few thousand.

      A couple of recent lists I started last week are now over 200 each.

      So time to build varies from one sort of list to the next and depends on how focused I am, how hard I push, etc...

      It's about both, really. You need the clicks in order to get to the conversions. Each is just a piece of the puzzle.

      In this case, the conversion rate appears to be running around 41%.
      44 clicks have resulted in 18 new members.

      That's a great day!

      Are you not doing it more often because you aren't applying that same technique now? Or are you using the same technique but not getting those same level of results now?

    Quick Update:

    The latest version (sent yesterday) appears to be performing just like the original version.

    I had made a change in the subject lines.

    The first version was: Special Offer for **NAME**
    The second version was: **NAME** - Get More Sales In Less Time.

    Open rate and click-through rate is running about the same as the original.

    Interesting ....
