There is a lot of forum cross over in my niche. Several people are members of these different forums. I don't want to be exposed as someone who is simple exploiting the forums for traffic even though it's true in a way even though I am providing value.

When marketing on forums are you creating different user names across the targeted forums in your niche?

What are you doing about your signature links?

I am just looking for tips to post on several forums in the same niche going to the same website. What are you guys doing?

    No way!

One popular train of thought is "You are your message," and more often than not I stand behind that. Me offering value on the forum is me offering my thoughts. In turn, my sig markets a service provided by me and is something I'm proud to put my name on.

    My 2 cents.

      Hi Nato,

You are your brand and you should promote that single brand every chance you get. You are branding yourself to the entire world with every post, regardless of which forum it is in.

Place any links to your products in your sig and if you are respected you will receive quality exposure. If you post crap and promote crap in your sig... well, a new business plan will need to be created.

      All the best,

      Scott

I rarely make the same posts in more than one forum. Can't really remember the last time I did it.

If I want my words spread far and wide, there's blogging with RSS, there's social marketing, and there are articles for that purpose.

The general reason folks go to forums is because they are (a) looking for answers to questions/problems, (b) to "give back" to a community that they have come to like and respect and (c) to socialize with the community.

If the community is found in multiple forums, there is generally a reason for that. Probably different sets of dominant discussions, a different tone, different rules, different players who like to hang out with each other, etc.

So posting the same content (article?) seems like it wouldn't be useful to someone who frequents multiple communities.

Think about how it would be for yourself. What if every forum started having the same posts by a few active players. The value would be diluted.

      So what to do?

Participate for real. If you can't think of original content to initiate an interesting thread, then answer a question (much as some of us have done here).

Eventually, you'll get a feeling for the different communities and you'll find yourself naturally initiating threads from time to time.

      Kind Regards,
      Bal

If you can wait until I release my research by the end of the month, I can provide you all the answers regarding signature advertising...
