Need some affiliate advice

Okay so recently something big and new was announced so I decided to buy a domain with the product as the keyword. Problem is it won't be released until next year.

So my question is how can I build up hype and monetize a blog for a product that won't get released until next year?

I heard I could host Google Adwords but I'm not sure how to start.

Don't monetize your site now. Submit you site to all search engine and as many directories as you can. Also be a member of few forums and add your site link to your signature. That will increase your traffic and your site will indexed well by the search engine. When you start getting a good amount of trafic then start monetizing by adsense or other affiliate products.

This big thing. Is the domain you bought a Trademarked name?

The domain name is what it is rumored to be named, but thanks for telling me that, I didn't know you could get in trouble for it.

Nooo. I just mean't proceed with caution and if it is a Trademarked domain speak to a lawyer first, before you put a lot of effort into monetizing it. If it is Trademarked, they technically own the domain you've bought.

Just find out where you stand first.

EDIT. Have a look at this thread

Could you get the site to rank and build a 'notification list' with news and gossip...

Then be the quickest out the blocks with links to a commercial site (or lowest priced site) as soon as it goes live?

A bit like an IM product launch.

If you've been smart and lucky enough to grab the domain this early you're sitting on a huge opportunity.

Is this a product that has a lot of buzz around it? Will people be searching for it all year or will it be hot only around launch time?

If its going to get searched all year you could actually use it as a chance to build a list in the niche.

Create a free report to give away, set up an autoresponder, and send out helpful tips from time to time. You don't even have to promote to them before launch time unless you really wanted to (I would).

When the product finally launches you should have an excellent chance to rank well meaning sales off direct seo traffic but ALSO now you can shoot emails to YOUR list who you KNOW were already intrested in the product.

Include a hot bonus offer and watch commissions roll in.

      Cheers,

      James

Yup, but if it's a Trademarked domain he could watch the commission roll in then roll out again to the owner of the Trademark along with the domain.

If it's not a Trademarked domain, great. If it is, the only advice the OP should be getting is from a Lawyer.

Tony, Look up Brian Kindsvater (Kindsvater), he's an internet Lawyer, he's on this forum and he's the only person I'd take any advice from on the matter.

Besides the law issues, I'd proceed with building a blog around the niche, getting subscribers and monetize it during the process. Your launch would be only on the top of the cake, because you can easily get a PR5 site within a year and your affiliate plans have much bigger chance of succeeding, if you already have a platform on which you can build.

If the product is not going to be released until next year then you have a lot of time to work on your seo. I would imagine that the competition for all related keywords would be little or none at the moment so it should be a piece of cake for you to grab the #1 spot. Heck if I were you and sure that the product will be huge, I would buy 3 domains and take the 1-3 spots when the product comes out.

But just be careful as some warriors said above with regards to trademark names. You don't want to put in a lot of work only to have your domain taken from you and make no money!

              Just thinking aloud here...

First, if its a trademarked domain I personally wouldn't touch it. Not worth the headache that may arise...but could a person really come after you for building a list on a trademarked domain?

Let's say: this domain ends up being trademarked..the OP uses it to build a list for a year..then the trademark owner sends a C&D. I've never heard of someone asking you to turn over your list so theoretically I'd think you'd still come away with something of value...

I'm not saying go do this..just got me to thinking a little. I'd love to hear some input on this.

              Cheers!

Thanks for all the responses! Right now my website is on the first page of Google of the keyword I'm using.

I have a question. Would it be a good idea to put up Google Ads for products related to what the blog is about?

I'm a big fan of adsense but it doesn't make sense all the time. The best thing you can do it test it out and see what kind of $/visitor figure you come up with.

If you're not building a list then you can easily compare it to your $/visitor without the ads. However, if you're building a list I'd leave adsense off because quite frankly your trading a quick buck for long term cash flow.

Hate to sound cliche but the money really is in the list.

      Cheers!
