How Much Do You Pay for Domain Names?

How much do you pay for domain names? What is the lowest price you've found with a registrar without coupons?
I'll be honest, I'm looking into selling domain names and I want to see what you've got in the low price range.
I personally have bought my cheapest domain, without a coupon, for $7.99 at Netfirms.

I use GoDaddy and always use the 10% off coupon "promo10". It's worked for the last couple months and it brings down a .com to $10.97.

Biggest mistake you'll ever make -- getting into bed with Yahoo. Not only will the domain go to $35 the next year, they will continue to charge you for domains that you have moved (as they did to me ... with numerous domain... for NUMEROUS years), and it seems almost absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to talk to a human being to straighten anything out.

The absolute WORST experience I've ever had with any company on the web has been my numerous experiences with Yahoo. They also like to play little tricks like not allowing you to cancel services from an admin panel. You have to write in manually or try to get in touch with <punchline>customer service.</punchline> They also make it as difficult as possible to remove your credit card info from their system. ... I mean pure slimeball stuff.

I can't stress strongly enough how much I think you should STAY AWAY FROM YAHOO.

I am sure that there are a lot of cheap and very affordable companies out there on the web but GODADDY.com is the one I like most.

I think it is like $10 per domain per year.

I pay $8.99 to have my domains registered with NameCheap. Comes with free who-is protection for a year, which is why they are my de-facto domain registrar.

A domain name is the cheapest investment you can ever make for starting a "business".

Don't spend time scouring the world for a savings of a few cents or a dollar. Yes, if you can EASILY find a coupon, use it. Otherwise, wouldn't you be better served MOVING forward than trying to save a dollar?

If it takes you an hour or even a half hour to find the cheapest domain name, you have lost that time that could be used to earn.

I agree with cost saving where appropriate, but don't get stuck chasing stuff like that when it's really small. :-)

    All success,

    Gary

I get them at a variety of registrars. Some may disagree
but I like 1 & 1. I have gotten them for $6.99 to start, and
then $8.99 when you renew each year. The nice thing I like
about it is that there is no extra charge to register it privately.

With GoDaddy I have had to pay an extra fee just to register
it privately. The cheaper price does come at a price (no pun
    intended) though.

I have found my GoDaddy registered domains instantly ready to
use, i.e. I can build my site straightaway by pointing it to my
hosting account. With 1 & 1 you typically have to wait a few
hours until it is ready to go.

However, if you are not in a rush for your site, then it will be
worth your while to save money on the private registration.

While you may initially save a few cents or dollars with Godaddy, you should be careful using them.

I've used a lot of registrars, and namecheap are my absolute favourite in terms of price, plus the usability (they have a very nice interface).

Don't know if it is still the same but the only time I bought from Go Daddy I got a cramp in my finger pushing the no button for all the upsell pages.

At that time I knew nothing and felt they were trying to take advantage of my ignorance. Add the blatant use of of large breasted women (except Danika) in the commercials to sell the product and I just get the feeling that there is nothing they wouldn't do to make a $10 sale.

With that being said they are certainly a good site to study for sales and upsells and downsells.

      Now what was the question.....

I use Netfirms. I get domains as cheap as around $6 plus free whois protection. Some think whois pretection means you have something to hide, I don't, it's pretty much a "spam protection". Yeah, there exists bots who farm email address from the whois database and some telemarketing firms who farm the same database for phone numbers too.

Heck, here's a little story, I used to work for a car rental company and used to get automated phone calls from "robots" asking abut company information!! Scary ain't it? I buy from Netfirms for every day domains and register.com for premium domains. Register is more expensive but if you do a Google search for Register.com discount code, you cand save yourself a few bucks
