How Do You Deal With Fake People On Your Dating Site?

For those of you who own dating sites, how do you deal with fake user sign ups. Basically, people who use a picture of someone else claiming that it is them. Unfortunately, I get people like this signing up for my dating site all of the time, and it's hard to find out peoples true identities.

As of right now, what I'm doing is telling people whose accounts have been reported as fake to take a picture of themselves holding a sign with a certain word and post it on their profile. They have 3 days from the time that their account was reported to do this, otherwise I delete their account.

What methods do you guys use?

  • I've seen other sites using the same idea and that does send the flakes running.

    • lol You should have seen the email I got from one person today who I told them to do that. They completely went off on me. Needless to say, their 3 days was up as soon as I read that email.
  • I do not own a dating site but I know a few people that do. Having someone post a picture holding up a sign with a certain word is the best way. Either that or ask the person for their number and call them. Most fakes will not give out their number.
  • Hah. I read the thread title and thought "given that nearly everyone lies in their dating-site profiles, the only way it's possible to avoid dealing with them is not to sign up" ... then I realised you were talking about fake accounts, rather than fake personality characteristics/features/interests/experiences/likes/dislikes/occupation/salary/breast-size/height/weight/etc.

    • lol Yeah. Busted a guy on there today for lying about his age. I just kind of let that one slip through the cracks though. He was younger lying about being older.
