Processing Payments Thru 1-800 Numbers...

Hi folks,

I'm trying to plan & setup payment processing with a 1-800 number, but unsure of how most marketers are going about it.

Are most people just hiring a on-site customer support person to deal with inbound calls and processing their credit card info thru a virtual terminal in real time?

Interested to know how the process works.

Thanks,

Steve

If you have the time, do it yourself and follow a basic script which starts with "How may I help YOU?". Let them tell you they want to buy and simply instruct them how.

You can also use Paypals Virtual Terminal which makes taking payment over the phone a breeze.

Under the order button have a 28 point font with your phone number stating.. "Not sure? Give us a call and let our friendly team help you with any queries you may have [phone number]"

    Hope this helps,

    Louis

It depends on the size of your business - but most companies use a call center - they are usually paid a flat monthly fee and then a per call fee as well for each sale handled. It is rarely practical to staff your own center since you would have to keep it staffed 24/7 and that is expensive.

Until you get to that point - the call center outsourcing is the best route to take

Though he wrote the stuff years ago I believe Joe Sugarman
was the first to use 800 order numbers and he has many
valuable insights about how to use them effectively.

The 800-number stuff is in "Marketing Secrets of A Mail Order
    Maverick".

I haven't read his book about making info-mercials but I
assume he covers it there as well.

You have to really know your "metrics" to make some of this
stuff work for you. I don't want to scare you off, just
let you know that the numbers with stuff like this can
make or lose you a lot of money.

800 numbers will lift response if you are selling info-mercial
type products. I've never used one because if a person
can't or won't place a long-distance call they are not
a prospect I want to speak with.

Some older people aren't aware of how cheap long-distance
has become so if you target that market an 800 number
    can help assuage fear.

I already have a 1-800 support line for another product of mine, so I already know how the costs go.

But I'm trying to setup a pay to process $ here. I'm not going to do it myself - I'm not on standby at a computer 24-7. :-)

Seems to me like call center is way to go - on a pay per minute/call kind of basis. Any recommendations?
