What are some of the steps you take to find a "good" niche to dive into?

The same way I would sell food. Look for hungry people. Where there are hungry people you will always be able to sell food. Look for those people with problems or questions that need desperate solutions. The sort of things that keep people up at night.

Those are the easiest people to sell to.

I'm always targeting niches with the highest prices being bid for PPC on keywords.

Those are the most lucrative niches; others have already done all the research.

Thats some good advice i like how you put that...so exactly what he said. I myself pick a random product using CB Surge look at the Grav and all... then i do a lil investigation work like looking for the Keywords and their volume, then look for forums & blogs(where real people are) some social networks are good im still on the fence about FB im not much into PPC so im working on free ways with FB

Yes, this is one way to do it - start with the product you want to sell first and then find keywords to sell that product. Problem is most other people are doing things this way, especially with Clickbank products.

Another way you can approach it is to find keyword phrases that have a lot of searches but not much competition because they are not buyer keywords. You can then be a little creative and try some free cpa offers, things like that. You don't always have to be selling stuff to make money as an affiliate. You can still monetize non-buyer keywords if you think outside the box.

Like Will said... think about a time in your life when you were in crisis; a time when you couldn't think or do anything until you had your problem solved. Think of a problem that people have that makes them run around like their head is on fire searching for a solution. Find that solution for them. Those are lucrative niches found the easy way.

Ok, great! But how do you find those people or niche's? I'm a newbie myself and I'm having a really hard time trying to find a niche to start with. I've been trying to find something that people really want/need that doesn't have a lot of people already promoting it but I'm not sure how to do that or where to look.

I would find a problem that I have or had, and sell the solution. Chances are, that if you have that problem, other people have it too. This method makes you authentic in that niche, and people can relate to you, so you can create great products, and sell easily.

I use both methods posted above. I dont really like niches through clickank, I prefer to use commision junction. Its easier to find lesser know niches there.

I use yahoo answers to search for questions with people who have problems.

I also check google trends daily to see what is popular at the moment. Sometimes you can find some really good niches in the trends.

Thanks to everyone for the insight, I have heard it commonly said to find a problem and provide the answer. Getting my creative juices flowing a little bit here lol. I really do find this exciting and i guess that is a good thing especially since I'm brand new! I have also heard people use amazon to find niches, any elaboration on that?

Would you say that clickbank is too saturated? And i will have to look into google trends myself

No, I do not think that clickbank is oversaturated, but some of the more popular products can be hard to find good keywords to use. Some of the products with a real low gravity are really easy to find great keywords worth promoting. Some of the high gravity items can be difficult to find good keywords worth marketing.

I dug and dug and dug to find decent keywords for the high gravity items. As where the really low gravity items the keywords were super easy to find. Honestly I make more money off of the high gravity items I promote than the small graity ones. I think this is in part due to some branding of the product itsself. It already has a presence and reputaion on the market and the buyer needs a smaller push towards purchasing.

Just dont limit youself to clickank for finding niches, they are all around you. A lot of times you can find a niche somewhere and match it up with a good product listed in clickbank.

Tradekey, google trends, and commision junction are my favorite places to find niches (in that order).

Brittany Lynch gave a great tip in a webinar that I did with her. She said to check Dummies.com. If there is an XXX for Dummies book on the topic, then you can bet that it is a money making niche.

  • I try to find something I'm interested in or just a product that looks like it's selling well on Clickbank or Amazon. Then I put a general phrase in to my keyword tool and find the best keword to market it with.

Having a niche allows you to be the "go to" man or woman in a particular area. Using my own life as an example, if I put my name on a business card or brochure with writer, video editor, photographer, videographer, watercolor painter, Amazon used book seller, website owner, and on and on--it would fall victim to the Jack (in my case Jill)-of-all-trades and master of none effect.
A great way to discover possible niches is to write out your interests, your skills, your connections (family, friends, classmates, co-workers), and try different ways of combining them into a problem you would enjoy helping people solve.
