Hi,

I need to record a video of my screen and blur out some sensitive information(like password, name)
I know it can be done with camtasia studio but it is kind of expensive.
Is there any opensource/cheaper alternatives?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

Camtasia is the best and has all the features people want, and that's why it is worth the investment.

You can download a 30 day free trial, no restrictions, so you may wish to give it a try. Find it at TechSmith.com.

Yes, Camtasia is great; and yes, Camtasia is expensive. If you're on a Mac you can use iShowu ($30) to capture the screen. The blurring however, would have to be done in another program. There is also a free screen capture program for PC's called FastStone Capture that has gotten good reviews. You might want to check that out. Again, the blurring would be done afterwards.

I would go with Jing ( I think it's called that). Anyways it gives you the chance to record a 5 minutes session where you can put arrows and stuff to show your things.

Otherwise I believe there is some sort of open soruce called CamStudio which allows to record as longs as you want, but with no chance to edit.

Uninstall Camtasia Stuido when it expires, then download it again and reinstall.

some registry values or tweaks might need to be done to make it work.

    I simply love Camtasia!

I can't live without it and I can't picture myself using anything else...

    But that's just me

I think your best bet is going for the trial and then purchase it once you have the $$$ from what you just created.

    Good luck

screenr.com is free and is an excellent screen recording tool. Doesn't do the blur for you though, but I am sure you could find some free video editing tool to do that for you.

That said, if you can afford it Camtasia is awesome!

I always have an annoying latency issue when using Camstudio - which seems to worsen as my videos get longer. Its obviously some sort of memory issue.

    Anyone else here notice that?

Oh, and also to the OP - have a look at BLUE YETI USB microphones. I just got mine and its AWESOME!!!

I would suggest getting the trial of Camtasia and Sony Vegas for a complete production experience. It will enable to really spice up your videos, more so than the basic version of Camtasia would allow.
