I do not use my articles as blog posts on my websites.

But I've never tried both, so I can't tell you from experience if one way is better than the other. Sorry.

Typically, bloggers submit the article on ezine submission websites and publish an excerpt of that article on their blog with a link to the original article.
That way, its not creating duplicate content, but is aggregating. While duplicate content can get you penalized, aggregation is an ethical practice since the web is exploding with content and its almost impossible to generate good, original content for your viewers/followers/readers all the time...

Personally I submit to Ezine Articles then do a quick rewrite and put it on my blog. After a couple of weeks the Ezine Articles listing will, in most cases, start to drop. When it does, I submit that original article, unchanged, to half a dozen other article sites.

I don't believe I get "penalised" for this. They might be ignored by Google but frequently I'll get an article that has dropped from EA reappear via ideamarketers or someone else. I know I'm also getting traffic from the "secondary" article sites.

I do a rewrite for Buzzle.com who are becoming increasingly influential (in my opinion.

I am no "big-time article marketer" but I can tell you now that many will answer your question differently.

This depends greatly on why you are using those articles also.. But -- If you submit semi-quality articles to the directories and then use high quality post on your blog about the same subject then you will do better.

There are some articles that you should use only on your blog but dont get confused on the difference between a article and a quality blog post. They are not the same thing, you can have a high quality article posted on your blog with a high quality post to backup the article.

As for google a dup content many say this does not exist.. But -- What happens when you have 1,000's of articles out there and google does create this ?? It is always best to think ahead of the game and be prepared and not listen to what others say.

Google is forever on a constant basis tweaking and changing their system and not everybody knows exactly what google is doing behind the scenes. Google is not the only thing you need to concern yourself with either. Some directories are kicking articles out due to dup content, so if you can not submit to those directories then obviously you will never get the benefits of google even if google does not have any dup content filters.

I am only just starting to use article marketing in conjunction with my blog. I would certainly not want to duplicate any of my blog content but at the same time I don't want to write articles from scratch.

So what I am doing is hiring somebody to take select blog posts (the ones that aren't time bound for instance) and re-write them into articles for submissions. I make sure that any personal information is removed so the article is suitable for a generic audience and not just for somebody who is already familiar with my blog.

If you submit to article directories and then the same content to your blog it will pick up as duplicate content and get you the google slap which will hurt your rankings incredibly if your doing this everyday. The best way is to either spin the content to make a blog post or take out certain paragraphs and just reword them. You don't want your blog post to be article size so a couple paragraphs shouldn't take that long to do if you are doing it manually.

I don't want to annoy anyone here but lets get our facts straight before we go scaring people who are new to the business.

The duplicate content penalty is a myth. It was exposed as a myth on this forum and in many other places. Google themselves don't know where the suggestion came from.

They do not directly penalize you for duplicate content, they just won't rank you as highly as those that are original.

If everyone got slapped by Google for using duplicate content, the article directories would lose half their usefulness. Many thousands of sites copy articles - in fact are encouraged to do so by the directories. What are they doing except duplicating content?

I'll take it further. Many news sites copy items from Reuters or other PR companies and the same article or item proliferates. Where's the duplicate content penalty?

I'm delighted when someone takes one of my article submissions and uses it on their site - providing they give me a link of course. To suggest they would be penalized is misleading.

I post my EA articles on my own blogs. "Duplicate content" doesn't worry me; I don't care where the traffic comes from.

Occasionally, when I'm in the mood, I might add additional information to an article I've posted both on my blog and on EA, but I usually don't bother.

As the OP stated, a "duplicate content penalty" is a myth.

Write away.:-) Just get lots of content.

I thank you guys, I have learned to be really careful when it comes to google for duplicate content. If you are looking for rankings it can make a difference.

However, if you have the same content in an article and on a blog post you will get in hot water when it comes to social bookmarking. I guess I air on the side of caution, it is not my sites that I dealing with, its clients. I would rather take the extra time and make sure because it's another persons business and lively hood.

Quite right too. As I stated in my first post in this thread, I write original for EZA, rewrite a little for my blog (adding in affiliate links perhaps that they won't allow) then I rewrite for Buzzle (who I find increasingly effective).

People like ideamarketers, goarticle, searchwarp, amazines, and a few others then get a duplicate of the EZA article, but only once its rankings start to slip. These "secondary" directories are not currently insisting on original but I do monitor them - as everyone should - so I can react to changes when necessary.

I frequently pick up extra traffic from Google and some from the directories themselves. I tested for six months before coming to these conclusions and adopting this method.

In another six months time it may be different. As always monitoring and testing are vital.

But as for rewriting for each directory. Not if I can help it. I've got better things to do with my time!
