Charge it or give away for free???

I am writing a book, a Jogging for Beginners Guidebook. And I'm having second thoughts about what to do with it.

It will be a book which will practically describe everything a newbie needs to know in order to start jogging safely and effectivly. It will contain about 20-30 pages.

I was thinking of putting a REALLY BARGAIN price on it, like 9.99$, or even less! (in comparison with other running and jogging ebooks which cost 20$-50$)

But, I haven't got any bonuses to add, and, I was thinking... maybe I could make it free, put affiliate links in it instead, and give it as a freebie in a form of e-mail opt-in from my website. That way I could make money from affiliate links inside the book, I could distribute the book more easily (more ppl would download it) and I would be able to resell them via e-mail.

What do you think is a better option?

Should I try first the 9.99$ and if it doesn't work, then the email opt-in FREE JOGGING FOR BEGINNER'S GUIDEBOOK ?

Thanks!

Why not make a short report from it. Give that away to build a list and then set up a series of follow up messages to sell the whole product.
The report can have some useful tips and still act as a presell to the full book.

I agree with Andy. You could certainly form a short report from it and make it into a "list concept."

e.g. "10 Deadly Jogging Mistakes every Beginner makes!

inside this special report you'll learn...

something like this but better...just first thing that sprung to mind.

Of course you don't want to give the whole farm away though as you want to build anticipation for your ebook of course in your email follow up's.

Once you have built up your subsciber list you have then multiple chances to follow up and presell the "value" your ebook. Then you can work on your "upsells" and "bonuses" as well.

      Goodluck! :p

I'm also with Andy on this one.

If 100 people go to your website and only 1 person is happy to pay $9.99 then that's 99 potential leads lost.

If 100 people go to your website where they can get a free report on the (for example) "10 Deadly Jogging Mistakes every Beginner makes" that's potentially 50 hot leads you can then follow up with emails.

Alright, I'll go with that then!

Just one question: If anybody knows, what is the pricing of creating your own e-book for selling?

I mean, are there any copyright legal issues involved, etc.

Also, if there is any other way to sell your e book, other than clickbank (i.e. i dont want to pay them 20$), can I do it for free, directly via paypal book4money exchange, or?

      Thank you

        Thank you

I just took a look in Amazon US - There are 96 books about the subject of jogging. The top jogging book has an Amazon Bestsellers Rank: #10,088 in Books. That measn that out of ALL books (on any subjject) it is selling better than the other millions of book Amazon sells. Wow!

The second book has a rank of #803,199. The fist book is selling 80x the quantity of the second. They are priced close to each other. So it must be the title, or the verisimilitude of the author.

How to price your ebook? Take alook at the others, and test.

Copyright and legal issues? It is your book, you didn't copy it from someone else? I am not an attorney and can't give legal advice. In this country the creator owns the copyrights as soon as the document is created. There are some issues about registration if you should need to go after an infringer.

Other ways to sell it are Kindle, Nook, and you might be able to reformat it for Createspace.

If you look at the books about jogging listed at Amazon, look at the reviews. One Kindle book there has a single star, and the reviewer gives some good reasons why he/she rated the book so low.

People remember what you do for them, if you gave away your ebook your readers will remember that!

Also as you go along with your email campaign make it a -gradual- upsell. Give them multiple free items, it doesn't have to be an ebook even an article works, leading to your eventual upsell of your product.

    Trust is key.

To create your own e-book use word or open office and export to pdf (free). You can sell your e-book independently of ClickBank just use PayPal buttons

You're kidding me, people are actually searching for tips on jogging? Have you done your research first? I can't imagine anyone who wants to go for a jog heading online first to get some jogging tips?

    Maybe I am wrong...

No but they are searching for "jogging benefits" 1300 times a month, at a relatively low competition.

That means that they're most probably new to jogging and would maybe consider it an option.

I want to be there to tell them what they can get from it, and how to get it in the fastest, safest and most efficient way.

EDIT: just did a little research, seems "jogging tips" has 4000 searches/month

If you're wrong...he may just have a killer market here

No kidding? I always thought jogging was fairly self-explanatory - just like walking, only faster.

I just did a quick search and you are correct. 4,400 exact searches. There's also some phrases like:

      [benefits of running] 6,600
      [running for beginners] 5,400
      [running to lose weight] 4,400

I do wonder though if this is the sort of market that would actually buy anything. I am thinking they are just after some quick and free tips. I definitely wouldn't be selling the report. You need to think outside the square a little.

You could create a list of jogging songs that are all at the same BPM (beats per minute) and have affiliate links to itunes for people to download the songs. Keeping a consistent rhythm when jogging is one thing that definitely helps so I'm guessing people would be interested in something like that. Everyone seems to wear an iPod when jogging these days.

I think it depends on the presentation.

An example, you present all these wonderful benefits that they can get from jogging, one of them is efficient weight loss (probably the main reason why most people start jogging)

and you fill them up with satisfaction and joy...

and then you present the pain of not doing it correctly (potentially not gaining the all of the above benefits, atleast not gaining them as fast as they could)

and you present a cheap solution...

I think you get a sale, but that's just my own opinion.

Well said Will! - was thinking along similar lines.

Yeah you really have to think about the market - audio is the obvious upsell but perhaps even better is to just to turn the ebook into an audio. It would really need to be upbeat though and with some funky tunes in there...

you can charge and then you will get maybe 5-10 emails

you can give it free and then you build maybe 1000 - 2000 emails

I agree with Kieran, have the pdf and an audio MP3 version with some catchy tunes for them to listen to while they are jogging...

I think, what you can do is to compare how much will you earn if you will be giving it for free and put affiliate links in it and how much you'll gain if you will be charging $9.99(or less) for every copy. That way, you'll able to determine which will be better and which will give you more money. Hope it'll help . .

I hope your going to mention in your report that interval training is the best way to actually lose weight and increase fitness as long steady jogging is horrible for it (sorry, just my fitness side kicking in!).

Frank Kern has some great videos on youtube about building trust and desire in your customers. Basically you give them a small report/article to get them started. You follow that up in a day or two with someone else that moves them a little further along. You basically keep doing this until they need to the rest of it. That's when you sell the final report.
