Ever do this? And how did you approach it?

About 12 years ago - long, long before Internet Marketing was a sparkle in my eye, I developed a website dedicated to adoptee and birthfamily searches. My list has grown over the years (in the 1000's) and there it sits.

What I wondered is whether there might still be value in the list. It never was intended to make money from. I did attempt to offer an ebook (I guess that is what it would have been considered back then), but I think it might be resourceful to be able to send out informational emails from time to time with offers the members might be interested in.

Is there an approach that would work to turning a list like this into a marketable list? '

I thought about sending an email offering a free opt in subscription to provide them with timely information.

As it stands now, they register their information, I approve it, it goes live, and then they receive an email (no double opt in).

Anyone done this or had any luck? Or should I leave this alone?

      Very rarely have I sent anything out. And I know that when someone requests more information on a specific listing, the email address is no longer valid.

    Can't hurt to try to monetize any list or web site. If your list is that old, most likely the addresses that are still good will have forgotten that they subscribed.

    I'd update the site, then email the list and have them re-subscribe so you can start making money from them.
