My Server just crashed

I am doing an internal prelaunch for my latest product to my list and my server has crashed by sending just one email.

Hosting company is trying to get me back up now

I am so stressed right now.

Jeepers! Amazon s3 helps a lot - always worth a try. Put your downloads/css and javascript files on it - cuts down the load a lot - but means you can still edit the html pretty quick.

If your still stuck and you need some space/bandwidth/cpu cycles drop me a PM - I can lend you some on one of my dedicated boxes.

Why? Didn't you know that crashed servers make it impossible for people to resist your offer? They may have been on the fence before, but not now. They'll be begging you to take their money. It's the best thing that could have happened to you.

This is crazy... I am still down. I am currently with HostGator and have never had an issue.

They seem to be working pretty hard to get it fixed. It is frustrating because they keep transferring me to other people. They are telling me the load on the server is such that they can not gain access to it right now.

      Is that possible?

Definitely, there aren't a ton of resources on a shared server. You are on a shared server? If the demand is too high they won't even be able to log in.

Are you on a wordpress platform? Reportedly plugins like SuperCache etc. can help you navigate a traffic surge, although I've only had so-so luck with them. (Congrats on the success!)

Sorry to hear that, my experience with Hostgator is top-notch though - but things like these seem to happen when the Big Gurus launch something....
Maybe you feel flattered, being in THAT company?

Well if you're throwing that much traffic at your site you should opt for a dedicated server mate.

    Regards,

check your site, does it have any scripts running in the background, such as for tracking, cookies, manipulate database, ...? 'not-so-good' script can slow down the server or database a lot. Once your usage is > certain % of cpu, your site may not accessible.

I have gone off of hg.... Had a problem with a dedicated which hung on a regular basis and the logs showed disk errors... Their solution was to hit the power button hours after every time we asked for help... They even failed to move a few accounts from one machine to another without screwing up dns.
