Is there a Amazon wordpress plugin that does this?

I'm looking for an up to date plugin that will allow me to insert a full product description and ratings from Amazon into a wordpress post. Obviously one that allows me to pass my amazon affiliate code as well. Anyone using one right now?

Off topic I know but I'm not a fan of Amazon.

There are to many Amazons about: America, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany and you have to sign up with each one in order to benefit and well it's OTT if you have three Amazon links displayed for the one product!

I live in Ireland and my sites are read in Ireland, UK and the US but Amazon won't let me use one affiliate link and it shouldn't be that difficult I think it is just a way of keeping money off affiliates

      Moan over

Totally agree. The only way not to lose commissions is to redirect browsers from each country to a unique page which is time-consuming.

  • Kael41,

Funny you should ask about that kind of plugin.

I am putting the finishing touches on a custom amazon/ebay/LinkShare/Commission Junction integrated wordpress plugin that I've been using for holiday selling.

You can bring in all the details of Amazon (description, ratings, etc..) and then integrate price comparisons with CJ and Linkshare affiliates and of course eBay auctions.

I am adding additional features now and hope to be done by the first of the year. I've been using it on a test site for Christmas and doing quite well I might add.

When I decide to sell it, I will need some testimonials and will give away free copies for those who want to participate.

You can check out the site toptoyreview(dot)com I am using as my holiday selling website. (btw, I am not soliciting sales, just showing an example of how I am using the plugin on my site)

I will also be posting a thread soon on how I used PPC to drive traffic to this site and made money for the holidays.

So far I've spent $300 on PPC and pulled in almost $1300 in sales in 2 weeks. Not bad for getting started late in the selling season.

That site looks great; I would love to get my hands on this plug-in. I've done a few eBay sites (BANS), and used phpBay. I was just about to dust off Associate-o-Matic for Amazon, but I like the idea of a WP plug-in better. I'd be happy to test on a few existing blogs that would be very suited to Amazon products.

        nichewebstrategies,

Your toy site looks great. Was the front page produced by your plugin using some form of snippets?

Is the link from front page snippets to a full review automatically inserted?

I'd be very interested in a copy of this plugin when it is ready - even a beta for testing (to get me familiar with it).

The way it works it that the plugin create a custom field based on an HTML template. The field value is the HTML that you want to display, so I just did a slight code change in my template to output the custom field value instead of the post contents.

It works with most all WP templates that I have tried so far. You just need to add a call to the custom field instead of the excerpt or content variables.

The link on the front page goes to the blog post that was created based on that product. You have two choices, display the review data dynamically each time or from the database (inserted at time of creation).

I like the dynamic part better because you get the updated pricing info (if you choose to display it) and comments, but some people may like the fact that they can add to or change the review output since it is saved in the database.

Excellent Site. I really like the site template. Was your site built on wordpress? Did you have it designed or did you design it by yourself? I would really appreciate if you can point out to how you designed your site. I am also highly interested in know more about your amazon plugin.

I would imagine pulling in content from other sites wouldnt go over too well with google? Wouldnt your site just be chock a block with duplicate content? Or are you just going to use it for PPC purposes and not seo

  • The plugin is coming along pretty well as I have been working on it over the past few weeks over the Christmas holiday.

I'll post back to this thread when I have something stable to offer those who want to participate in a free copy for a testimonial.

If you've had time to review the site noted in the previous post that I used as a test case for holiday selling and want to offer suggestions/features I'd love to hear them.

  • Thanks, Russell. The goal is to make this as flexible as possible with the output of the HTML being 100% customizable by the end user.

There are two places where you have that option, generating excerpts (like on the front page of toptoyreview.com) and the full post page.

I modified the theme for that site slightly to show the type of excerpt with rating stars for each product. This will be available to you as a custom field on the post so that you can do the same thing.

Out of the box, it should work just like any other posting, but if you want to do what I did and show the same display for each product, you will have to make a VERY easy code change to accomplish that look.

Other than that, I am open to suggestions on other ways to display the data.

The theme I used is Revolution 2 Magazine Church theme. That theme used to be free to download until Brian decided that they were going back to a paid model for these themes.

I love this theme as it is suited very well for this type of site.

  • Currently, I am targeting eBay US and I am signed up with Amazon's US affiliate program.

I hope to make the eBay integration geotargeted at some point, but for now I am just trying to get the initial development done.

Btw, it is setup so that you can use any eBay plugin with it. phpBay has a free version that does all of that, I think, so you could use that in place of what I am coding for.

But to be able to pull customer reviews is something that I have been looking to do for awhile. And contained within a Wordpress plugin is even better. Please keep me posted on the release of this one. Maybe you could put an opt in form somewhere so that those that are interested could get updates as you progress. Ebay still uses the rover links to track clicks even though they are no longer with CJ so you shouldn't have any issues there.

    • I haven't been updating this thread much the last few weeks since I've been sending out communications to those that have signed up for updates on the web site.

I'll be sending out another update tomorrow to the list, but the latest update is that I plan on launching the 1st full week of April. I've still got a few updates to make and I need to finish the documentation and as well as a few videos.

I've gotten some incredible feedback and for that I am very humble. I just want to make sure that I am giving a solid piece of software and so a few more weeks of testing and tweaking should do it.

The affiliate program should be up at that time and those of you who want to make some money promoting it will have a very good chance to do that.

If you haven't seen the demo video that I put out a few weeks ago, you should check that out. The link is in my signature.

    Hello Kael41

I was looking for a similar plugin for a wordpress blog. After looking for a long time I finally came across this plugin which can do what you are looking for. It's called Item-It

WP Plugin Amazon Item | Great Deals On Net (non affiliate link)

I haven't used it yet, but I tried a smaple post on two different hosts. It worked great with hostgator but not with my other host.

Check out their sample blog posts, sounds interesting.

My only concern is about duplicate content. Some products on amazon have hundreds of customer reviews and all these get fetched on your blog. There isn't seem to be any control over how much content (in terms of word count or number of reviews) can you display on your blog.

@nichewebstrategies > your plugin and blog looks great too. I ask you the same question again about duplicate content. Recently there was a long thread about creting blogs with duplicate content and many warriors seem to confirm that "you should not link two webpages that have similar content on them"

    Here it is >
    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...94-so-far.html

With this rule, "content on your blog links to a webpage on amazon.com (through your affiliate link) which has the same content as a "product detail page". How does this work out as far as SEO is concerned.

    Thanks....

Brad, I use a plugin currently called wordbay that minimizes a footprint of having all outbound links going to ebay. the plugin simply uses a buy.php file to make it look like the links are on the same site. The questions I have are: 1) could a plugin like wordbay be used concurrently with yours, or 2) would you consider adding the functionality of cloaking those links to ebay (or amazon for that matter) so that all of our sites don't start to look like BANS to search engines? I have found that with BANS, so many outgoing links to ebay listings per page is not a good thing.

the thing I like about wordbay is that it has geotargeting, and you can also set minimum # of bids so you don't get all duplicate listings. Also the fact that it is free doesn't hurt. I think it is much more powerful than phpbay lite for the same price.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[543896].message }}
    • Link cloaking is being added now as part of the feedback from beta users. Most feel that this is something that is needed.

I tend to agree and so it will be available for the amazon links. As for the ebay links, I am just leveraging the already available functionality of phpbaylite, and it doesn't offer link cloaking in the lite version.

If the demand is there for wordbay integration, I'll consider it for future updates.

      Thanks for recommending it.

Hey! There is a good plugin that I use regularly to insert Amazon details into a wordpress post. Its a great plugin that carries the data that of a full product description and ratings from Amazon. Check it out here! Hope this helps!
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[543951].message }}
  • Good question. There are quite a bit of "product comparison" sites that are pulling in Amazon product descriptions and they are ranking very well.

One other thing to note is that content duplication across websites is a myth and has been debated at length on this forum. There are lots of folks using WP-o-matic to create posts from RSS feeds that are doing really well and that would be considered dupe content if that was true.

As long as you don't have the same content on multiple pages of YOUR site you should be fine.

You have the ability to modify the content pulled in from Amazon so you can make it as unique as you want, but I really feel it isn't worthwhile to do so.

I am not really advocating PPC over SEO traffic methods or vice versa, but PPC happens to be my main source of traffic when I promote sites using this plugin. (Mainly because I like to see results right away vs. waiting unitl the sites get indexed) , but I will say that I have a few sites right now getting decent traffic from the search engines using the product descriptions straight from Amazon and they are converting quite well.

    Hope this helps,

    Brad
