Is it possible to promote a "service" (not a product) through affiliate program?

Hey Folks,
just a quick question...
I was recently exposed to affiliate programs and realized that it is great for both affiliated and advertiser:
The affiliated site drives traffic to the advertiser and if it doesn't lead to a sale the advertiser doesn't pay the affiliated site, if it leads to a sale the affiliated makes a commission and the advertiser makes a sale. In other words, it is great for both sides.

However, I have only seen this arrangement for products, books aso. I am just wondering, is it possible to affiliate also a SERVICE such as a custom article?

We provide our clients with a premium service and they always ask for more, I am wondering if an affiliate program can be a good idea to promote our service and get more customers?

Sure... for example, there are warriors that do graphics and offer an affiliate program.

Make sure you're clear though - you don't want to pay out instant commissions or something then not get paid by the client.

    All success,

    Gary

    It most certainly is.

This might fall under "pay per action" rather than "pay per sale".

MAYBE. about equally likely, I suppose.

pay per action would be like referring someone to a form and having them sign up for that.

Absolutely. It's quite common, in fact. I've seen affiliate programs for traffic sellers sites, membership programs, link cloaking services, etc.

Affiliates for services is very common and I use them in my businesses. Make sure that they know the terms and that you have a way to track them so both of you know that everything is on the up and up. Just like everything else you have to pay after the sale.

I can't see how you couldn't do this with either a shopping cart that includes an affiliate system - there are some good ones out there like ClickCartPro, Zen Cart or X-Cart etc or a membership script.

You could also use affiliate tracking software like iDev or JrOx Jam etc. - integrated with your existing site.
