Any Tips for Master Mind Group?

6 replies
For anyone involved in a master mind group, I was wondering if you had any tips for getting it off the ground, breaking the ice for an initial meeting, and then keeping it going.

Thanks.

    A mastermind can be of tremendous help in building an online business.

    When I started a mastermind group, I invited people who I knew personally as well as some people who were also taking the 30 day challenge.

    At our first meeting, we started off with introductions including background and both how the mastermind could help them as well as how they could contribute to the mastermind.

    We also described the format we would be using for future meetings (we met weekly.) One important consideration is making sure everyone understands that the discussions are confidential to the group.

    That first session was basically social so everyone could get to know and get comfortable with the others, and met at a fairly quiet local pizza parlor. That meeting place seemed to work out okay, so we continued meeting there.

    After that, it was structured so each person had at least 10 minutes to describe and get feedback on what was important to them. Of course, that was related to building their business and providing accountability.

    One thing that interfered occasionally was ... ah ... strong opinions being voiced and not dropped. That type of behavior needs to be dealt with as soon as it arises.

    People that don't/won't contribute need to be dropped so it doesn't kill off the group spirit of cooperation.

    And if progress is not happening, people will lose interest and leave.

      One of the most important things is trust. To get the most out of it, you need to be trustworthy and so does everyone else in the group. You can't have people undermine each other and run with their ideas.

      Brian,

      The best way to form the group is word of mouth and personal invitation.

      A couple of years ago two friends approached me about being in a mastermind group with them, and we agreed that anyone else invited would be subject to an unconditional veto from the other core members. In other words, any one of us three could keep any other person from being invited into the group. For each other person who was proposed, someone vetoed that person, and we ended up running the group successfully with just three members for more than 2 years.

      The other piece of advice is to set up ground rules about attendance, confidentiality and anything else that is important to the core members.

      I ended up leaving one group because another member was highly indiscreet about things I talked about in the group.

      Good luck,

    Is anyone interested in joining a mastermind group based around the unbounced guide to online marketing? Their six month program provides a highly practical set of tools and processes covering all aspects on online marketing including ;

    * Landing pages,
    * Pay-per-click (PPC)
    * Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
    * Email marketing,
    * Analytics,
    * Lead generation,
    * Content marketing
    * Conversion rate optimization.

    The group will consist of a maximum of eight members who will challenging each other to create and implement goals, help brainstorm new possibilities, and set up accountability structures that keep you focused and on track.

    I would expect the mastermind group to be structured around a weekly teleconference which will give each member the opportunity to discuss their progress over the prior week, share feedback and set priorities for the following week. This will be complemented online with a members only forum and regular email catch-ups where appropriate.

    All discussions within the group would of course be entirely confidential and members will be required to complete a non-disclosure agreement prior to starting. There will also be a nominal membership fee of $25/month to cover running costs and more importantly indicate a level of commitment to the group.

    Membership will be limited to eight to provide all individuals the opportunity to fully participate. At this stage it is not intended to open new groups once all the slots are filled, however a waiting list will be made available in case any member leaves the group.

    If you're interested in joining or you want any further information or explanations please let me know
