How do you send ebooks?

How do you send eBooks through links or auto responders?

I'm thinking of using media fire. It seems user friendly.

Does anybody have suggestions?

I would not use media fire. There are soultions such as DL guard which you use your own server.

Are there any tutorial anywhere on how to do use DL guard and integrating it with my server? All this seems so daunting to me.

The creator of DLguard is on here, but I know that the product comes with a LOT of instruction and tutorials. Worth the money :-)

You can password protect your ebook or you can use some third party pdf protect software, which is integrated with paypal . So in that case when your customer downloads a pdf their ip etc are stored and he needs the transaction id to open the ebook. Or if you want to do something simpler without spending money you can use a PHP - Protected download a simple PHP code which will require user name password authentication before being able to download from that link and you can send the user name password through an autoresponder such as aweber.

E-junkie.com would be my first port of call, I think, in your situation.

DL Guard protects the download page against unauthorised downloads (theft) but doesn't prevent people, after downloading the e-book, from forwarding it to anyone else by email, nor from uploading it to a "torrent" or "black hat" site from which others then can and will illegally download it without paying you a penny.

E-junkie has an optional facility which effectively stamps the buyers' name and purchase-transaction details on every page of the PDF e-book, which is a huge deterrent to people from doing anything too obviously illicit. It's no 100% guarantee of your work not falling into the wrong hands, of course, but still very, very worthwhile.

Don't listen to people telling you that people who will steal your e-book from a "torrent"/"black hat" site were never going to buy it anyway. This is palpable nonsense. Unfortunately the world is full of people who will look round for an illegal way to download a free copy of anything they wanted to buy, and then buy it only if they can't find one.

Good luck, but do think about "security", too, while you're thinking about "how to do it".

I do both of those, I provide a download link after they purchase and send them the link through a autoresponder.

  • I would never send the book via email.

I'd host it on a download page, and a send a link to the download page through email.

That gives you the opportunity to cross-sell other services on the download page, and saves the large amount of bandwidth required to transfer the ebook directly to email accounts.

There are some good suggestions for ways to protect the download page in the other replies, so I won't repeat those.

It appears the OP is simply asking how to send ebooks, and isn't concerned with how to protect them at this time.

As far as sending them to someone, a download link in an email or download page is the way to go. When just starting out, I would just use Paypal and direct customers to a download page to download your ebook. Paypal has instructions on how to send customers to a web page of your choice after purchase.

You can also use Clickbank to set up a "thank you" page for customers to download your ebook.

If you want to take the next step and protect your download page, e-junkie is a good solution at only $5 a month. Something like DL guard is more costly and will also protect your dl page.

Of course you could put your links on an autoresponder email as well. All depends on how you want to set up the purchase process.

What about DropBox? You could simply set up the autoresponder with a download link from Dropbox.

If you're concerned with the security, then DL Guard is the way to go.

I suggest you using media fire. It's awesome. I have been using it for 2 years.

Or Amazon S3 - you only upload the file once, but can create and send a personalized download link that expires automatically after a set period of time.

I post mine on a download page and, as mentioned above, it's a good way to cross sell other products or even introduce yourself to build a relationship.

Another option is to add it to a members only area on a website. Somewhere you could add updates, try to keep people coming back and, again, cross-sell other products.

Ejunkie has seemed most reliable for me.

Prices are very resonable too so there's nothing to lose - bar the small fee!
