Question For All Wordpress Users

INTERNET MARKETING

My brain is mush right now. I've been trying to learn Wordpress today. I've put it up on my own domain and it is totally foreign to me, although I have learned a little today.

One question that I can't seem to find the answer to is this:

I want my blog to be of the sort that doesn't list the entire post on the main page, but just a headline and the first few lines, followed by a link to "read the rest of this post."

How do I do that?

Also, since I've got you here, how does one make a "tag cloud" appear on the pages. Is that a plugin? And if so, can you recommend one?

Hi there,

If you want the read more link then in your text editor (in visual mode) click the icon that looks like a page cut in half at the point in your article that you want the read more to show. You can also manually insert it with the code  in html mode if you wish.

A good tag cloud plugin is WordPress › Better tag cloud widget WordPress Plugins or this one WordPress › Blibahblubah Tag Cloud WordPress Plugins you can just search Wordpress Extend for more.

Thanks for the tips, Jane. One more question, if I may: If I use that code, or the button in the Visual Mode editor, will it automatically put the post on a new page with its own URL?

When the visitor clicks "read more" they will be taken to the post page that has its own url.

I use WP Limit Post plug in to limit the post length. It automaticly limits to post to the length you specify in the settings.

I also use a plugin called 'Advanced Excerpt' that works for me on the 'snippet on the front page' question.
