Scope of Social Media Marketing And It's Future in SEO

In the Internet Marketing and promotion of the online businesses Social Networks like Facebook and Twitter are always considered as a good source of traffic and getting direct customers. It was assumed that the links from the social networks did not play any role in the search engines for your ranking and it was true because the links are nofollow.

But now as the search engines are trying hard to refine there search results so they that user can see only most relevant searches in the top results they are making huge changes in there algorithms for example panda update. But one should remember that algorithms are mere computer programs which do not have the ability to sort out the results by analyzing which webpage has the unique, value added and relevant information according to user's search query (keyword). If a person deeply studies the search engine's behavior and working it will be difficult but not impossible to rank a webpage on top which contains totally irrelevant information against the search query.

Search Engines know that very well that's why they are now relying more on the humans than algorithms. For example Google is introducing (+1) button so that user can give ranking to a search result be pressing the button. The result which will have most positive rankings by the users will be placed on top. Similarly Google knows that most of the internet users are very active on the social networks like facebook and twitter, by analyzing which companies and websites are highly rated by the users can solve there problem to show the relevant results which will be helpful for the user.

For this very reason Google is now also analyzing the links from the social networks which are shared by the users, so if an internet marketer considers links from the social networking sites only as a source of information he is doing a big mistake because now Google is counting on them. If your link is shared by the other users than your site will surely jump the rank and will get placed in top.

Google is now also showing the search results to the users which are liked by the user's network you can understand this by analyzing the picture below.

/* I tried to post the picture but I didn't find any way to post it but you will understand what I am trying to say */

I actually searched in a Google with query wholesale by signing in into my Google account. The result on the 3rd rank is shared by my network but does is it's actually position is on 3rd rank? No! Its actual position is on 21st.

Google was highly criticized by the websites which are suffering by dropping down from top search results to very low after the panda update. The panda update was meant to make the searches spam free and most relevant which has been done at some extent but the websites which haven't done anything wrong and very popular among the users are also hit by this algorithm change and this because when you are relying on the computer programs you should not expect that they will help you to achieve your desired target by using there common sense because they actually have no sense.

In future, I think that the search engines will focus more on the social networks and less on the referral links from the other site because by using social networks they are relying more on real humans rather than the human written computer programs which always have a possibility of containing bugs.

IMHO, Google will keep changing the rules every 6 months or so to protect their PPC revenue. You can see where they are going. They want to get paid for a click, more times that not. A quick example of that, is the lightening of the ad spots at the top of the page. A few years back, they were easily defined as being ads, they are now just a couple of shades off the free listings... regards Allen

Google has to change the rules to make their services better. Even if they are trying to get pad per click, at least users gain more from using the search engine.

I don't see google trying to adopt a full pay per click system any time soon. I think the social network addition, giving the users the ability to rank pages, is a long overdue feature. With this addition, quality content will really have the ability to shine and going viral on google listings over night for highly competitive keywords suddenly becomes possible.

Its a win/win for users and websites imo.

I think its a best way to discourage spam which is google trying to do, without harming the other websites. IMHO it is not an overdue up-gradation. The influence of social networks in the search results is increasing day by day.

Google make several changes to their algo each week. While nothing major, over the course of a few months it can have a big impact on the SERPs.

The +1 is a problem just waiting to happen.
