Can you help with a hosting question?

Hi,

I would very much appreciate any help you Warriors can give!

I need to transfer a WordPress blog from a non-CPanel host to a host with Cpanel. I have the latest database for the blog, and I can save my blog pages. I just don't know how to set it all up in the new host with CPanel (the new host will help, but only for a charge.). Is there a fairly simple way to do this?

Can anyone step me through the process? Are there any issues I need to watch for?

Whether you can help me or not, I appreciate your taking the time here. You Warriors on WF are the best!

Thanks for reading this,

Art

I want to THANK you all for your input! I really appreciate the time you took to reply to my issue!

I also appreciate all the offers to do the transfer for me, but I really wanted to learn how to do this myself; and after starting with your wonderful information I finally succeeded in doing the transfer.

THANK YOU Warriors! You really ARE the BEST!

You might try one of the Wordpress backup plugins. In theory, you should be able to install the plugin, backup your current site. Go to your new host, install wordpress, install the plugin and then restore the old site to the new site.

ArtBiz, here's the basic process involved:

    1) Zip your wordpress files and copy them over to the new server.

    2) Export your database and import it into your new host.

    3) Update wp-config.php with the new database username/password.

There's some plugins you can get that will do it all for you even, and there's lots of other ways to do it.

If you are willing to consider another host, we have a WSO running here for hosting and I could move your blog for you for free if you sign up with us, see my sig for details

The simplest and easy way is to ask your web hosting company to help you out, there are many good hosts that offer you free transfer.

    here are simple steps.

1- Take a full backup of your data base

2- Take full backup of your code, zip it

3- install wordpress - upload code in public_html directory

4- create database and restore the database, add the new db credential in wp-config file

I just consolidated all my blogs from various hosts to just one. I used the services of a really excellent lady who charged just $10 per blog (she was recommended by another Warrior who had also used her). If you would like her contact information, just PM me. I recommend her highly.

Art, I'll do it for you. I run my own hosting servers (you don't have to use mine) with cpanel, and I typically always *avoid* using the cpanel installer for WP because it's much better to do it by hand.

If you can give me the access to the db, your old site, and your new site, I'll do the copy for you.

Let me know if you need the help.
