What is the best piece of software, tool or website to set up an affiliate program?

That's a really big question and there's no right answer.

There's 2 ways to do it (generally speaking): In House, or Network.

Both have their pros and cons.

The biggest networks are: cj.com, shareasale.com, pepperjam.com, and the various CPA sites.

As an affiliate, I generally prefer networks as you just signup once and you get access to hundreds of programs.

As a merchant, I prefer running it in-house because you can customize features as affiliates need.

I use nanacast and it is excellent for running an online business
especially because of the affiliate program.

Unfortunately, sometimes you have to do in-house. Our system is so complicated that it would be a real pain to integrate into a network. I personally would like to plug our site into Shareasale (that's my favorite network), but I haven't found a way to make it work because of all the technical hoops involved.

So we're stuck with in-house, which we have a system that works really well.

Maybe I can revisit the code and see if I can make it work, but it's a pain.

I used idevaffiliate when I ran an affiliate program on my shirt sites. It has a lot of nice features and I really liked it.
