Newbie looking for Advice on Beginning

Hello to all. I want to thank everyone for all the helpful information that they have given. I am learning so much just by reading a lot of everyone's post. I want to especially thank WahbReview for the review on the Profit Siege System. I was orginally looking to buy this product, but I stumble upon this forum in the process of searching reviews. So a very big thank you for getting me here. (Couldn't post on that thread yet because I am to new )

I am looking to begin with online marketing. I am sure everyone on here can think back to the time when they first started out. Everything seems so overwhelming with all of the information that is being put in front of me.

If you can offer any helful advice for me, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Dee

First thing i have to say is do not buy any programs/courses that claim to make you $100,000 in a week becuase its all bull. Also take a look around the free make money section in WF, try a couple free methods first.

Thanks I appreciate the advice. I was definitely looking at a couple of programs to help me get started, so I will take a look around in that section

        Dee,

        Welcome to IM!

I agree with Mrmuscle90, there is a lot BS out there. Over the last two years I have purchased several big courses (big money) an found that they were last years technology. Kind of like surfing on the back side of a wave.

See if you can find someone who is really doing something and mentor with them. Go to all the Meetups you can. You would be surprised how much getting out can help you get into this!

Lastly, invest in a couple of good tools. But NOT every tool! Marekt Samurai is a must. Brad Callens Niche Finder is a great tool, as is Micor Niche Finder.

Take one niche and go after it. Take your time to fully develop a site, maybe try blending in AdSense with a ClickBank of CommisionJunctino product. Use Piwik (free!) to track stats.

        Good Luck and welcome!

          Hi Dee,
Welcome! We're glad to have you here.
I'll mention a couple of things I've observed over the years.
When you're just beginning it's so easy to get distracted, so pick one thing and then stick with it. An example would be affiliate marketing. Learn all you can about it and then implement the strategies you've learned.
Also, don't wait until things are perfect to begin. In other words, yes, your website must look professional and be functional, but don't fine tune forever. I have been guilty of paralysis by analysis and I can say from experience it stops you dead in your tracks.
Good luck and keep reading, this forum is loaded with brilliant marketers.

            Hey Ted,

Thanks for the advice. I think I have found the area that I am going to focus in (affiliate marketing), and now it is time to pick the right niche. I will definitely try to not be a perfectionist, but my personality quite often tends to take me that way .

Information overload can be a pain in the butt. Try to find something that you can do and stick with it for a while. Do one thing at a time.

That said, since you're looking to start off, here's a very simple method that works like magic. Sign up for an affiliate program of a specific product, write a review of the product and submit it to EzineArticles or a good authority article directory. Try to rank that article by building backlinks to it. If the competition is not very high, you can easily rank in the search engines for specific keywords like 'product review' or 'product legit or scam'. People buy the product via your referral link, you get commissions.

Well, it's easier said than done - but that's just how internet marketing is.

The first thing you need to do is decide what aspect of internet marketing you are most interested in. Once you decide that, come back here and ask for advice on which product or products will be best for helping you get started in that area.

Right now, offering website service to offline small businesses and physcal product affiliation (Amazon, Commisision Junction, etc.) are popular.

I'm working on a website that will basically be a 24x7 meetup/networking site for internet marketers. I'll be sending out some invitations for beta testers in the near future (PM me if you're interested and I'll add you to the list), but in the meantime, here is a list of IM specialties I created for the site. Take a look at it and see what appeals to you.

I'd also appreciate any suggestions for additions to the list!

I really love the micro site's its excelent passive income.

I usually make a couple a month often you may only make $30-50 per site a month, but it soon adds up and when you think of it in terms of ROI it cant be beaten.

For example $50 x 12 is $600 a year for a domain name that cost you $10 thats 6000% ROI.

This is just a suggestion and something I like doing obviously you should do something you like doing I think the key is sticking with 1 thing and dont get info overload which is easy to get when you spend to much time on the forum.

First stop and think what kind of business you need. Long term or short term.
Long Term. 1.Start building Email list immediately.
    2. Find 1-2 proven long terms plans to work on.
    3. Increase your own name awareness.
    4. Always keep a mindset to help people.

Short Term: Sorry can't help on this one.

    Hi Dee,

I know how you feel. Here are some tips that can help:

    1. Focus on one thing at a time & stick with it until you achieve some measure of progress.

    2. Do not spam. Spam is sending out massive amounts of email to people who did not request to receive email from you.

    3. Finally, do not sign up for programs that promise you hundreds, thousands, or millions of visitors or clicks to your web site if you have one. Most of these are scams.

I wish you well. I hope this info helps,

    Robert.

This is simple and how i was able to quit my job. There are 4 simple rules to follow .

Now before I share them you must promise to follow these ok!?

    Ok, deal...ready.....here they are!....

    1) Come to the warrior forum each day and read.

    2) Take notes on what you think is great info and getting good feedback from other warriors.

    3) Get off your lazy ass, and get to work. Implement what you have just learnt.

    4) Go back to step 1 and repeat!

That is what I did and was able to quit my job in a jiffy. Tis all about testing and tracking...have smaller wins that lead to massive successes.

Great succinct and hard-hitting post, Gerald! No. 3 is especially important, please do not spend all your time only learning about IM - you absolutely have to implement in order to make any progress!

Try to keep the ratio of learning to implementation at about 1:1 when you're starting out, i.e. for every hour you learn about something, make sure you spend at least an hour implementing it! Don't become a "professional" student who learns about everything and does nothing.

This is exactly what I was going to suggest! It is very hard but this is one way to counteract information overload. It helps you to focus on what you have just learned. If I am just reading something and do not take the time to focus and apply, I feel like it goes in one ear and out the other! Make sure you schedule learning time. Schedule time to read the ebooks that you have downloaded. Make time to read these wonderful Warrior posts. There is a lot of information to be learned. But you must take action or there will be no results.

      Best of luck!

My best advice is to find a mentor, someone you like and have vetted to ensure that there are many amazing things that are being said about the mentor you choose.

Having a mentor or a coach can help you to outline and strategically put a game plan together and then go for it. You are either going to spend time or money attempting to be successful with online marketing.

In addition, you have to treat your new venture with respect. To many people jump into this business, thinking it's all easy... and it is, once you understand all the basics. Yes the other warriors are absolutely correct, you must find a niche... something you have passion for and are good at, or are willing to get good at. There are many ways to make money on line and, many of then can and will work as long as you are willing to work.

Financial freedom can be yours in a shorter time than you think as long as you are willing to put in the time and the effort... do your research and find and follow a proven system, and once you find one that works, put your own spin on it and create your own product then help as many other newbies who are felling just like you felt when they first started...

I hope this helps, feel free to contact me if there is anything more specific I can do fo you and just go ahead and become amazing...

Don't spend any money on IM that you didn't earn from IM.

I want to share with you that my biggest failure at the beginning was to offer products that I thought were great. If you base your business on a good product, you will fail.

Your business has to be based finding what people want (market reasearch) and give it to them. A good product has to come along the process but it shouldn't be the base of your business.

    Hello Dee,

This is actually my first post on this board. As a newbie like you, I have been thinking of different ways

on how to start my internet cash sources. I have several other sites that have been live for some time now

but the traffic and sales are not really promising just yet. So recently, I purchased the profit siege. So

far, I am completely frustrated coz even though Mr Steven Rounds explained the step by step process on

getting started, there is a difficult part that newbies like me encounter. That is the application portion with affiliate networks. It would take days to approve or deny your application and some would include intensive phone interviews. Now, I am not really sure if PS is for me.

You saved me from asking, now I can also apply those suggested to you by other members. Thank you!

Also, for anyone who has experience on this => is buying traffic ok? Having thoughts of doing this just to jumpstart my business. Thanks again!

    Hi Dee,

When I started out with internet marketing my biggest issue was jumping from one product to the next, searching for a magic bullet (which doesnt exist!!).

I recommend you find a course created by someone trustworthy with a solid reputation, and follow their teachings. Stick with what they are showing you and give it time to work...that'd be the biggest single piece of advice I'd give to a newbie.

    Good luck!

  • Hi Dee,

Great to know you're focusing on affiliate marketing. Now that's done, here are a few questions which must be answered, in my opinion, before starting an affiliate marketing business:

•What are the most immediate needs and most urgent problems of large groups of people? Then: Which of those needs and problems force them to go to Google or to online communities, in an effort to learn more about the solutions in the market, and to get helpful pieces of advice from experts specializing in relevant subject areas and others with similar needs and problems, since they can't satisfy nor solve those needs and problems on their own? And: Are they willing to buy those solutions online, once they're ready to make an informed buying decision? Trim your list of groups of people at this point, so you can target a better converting online consumer market...

•What would be their most likely conscious and subconscious ideas relevant to their needs and problems when online? When they're searching in Google for possible solutions? While they're spending time trying to find more about helpful solutions in online social communities, such as Facebook, Web forums and blog networks among others? Would those conscious and subconscious ideas be enough for them to buy possible solutions once they learn more about those solutions? And: Which specific types of online social communities can you subtlely promote those solutions that could possibly give you the best results from your affiliate marketing campaigns? By "subtle promotions", I mean establishing your reputation in those online social communities as an expert resource of relevant content and effective solutions for the specific needs and problems of other community members, and this can be done by:

Ansewring relevant questions and providing useful tips, strategies, techniques and tips which can solve their problems and satisfy their needs or at the very least maximize the benefits they gain from using effective solutions. Fundamentally: Help them satisfy their needs and solve their problems they can't satisfy nor solve on their own...

Target Buyers = The specific target consumer market along with their immediate needs and urgent problems should be known at this point...

Target Affiliate Products = The most effective solutions in the market for those needs and problems should also be known at this point, as well as the developers offering affiliate arrangements, commissions per sale and free full product version giveaways to affiliates or trial product versions as giveaways to affiliates...

Online Places to Promote Affiliate Products = Also known are the online social communities they regularly visit in an effort to have their questions answered, their needs satisfied and their problems solved...

Then: Provide your target buyers with onsite content offering benefits not found in your content contributions and advertisements in those online social communities nor elsewhere. Afterwards:

Offer a free ebook which can help them learn specific things and your actual test results and experience in using your affiliate products, as well as tips, strategies, techniques, advice and info that can maximize the benefits provided by the features of your affiliate products. Your ebook content should offer benefits not found in your onsite content nor elsewhere. Include your affiliate product links so they can learn more about each product. Those are the last few things to add to those mentioned above...

As an example: I started thinking two months ago about Facebook advertising. I asked myself: What do Facebook members here in the Philippines think about when they're spending time in Facebook? My answers included:

•Physical appearance. They see the pictures of their old friends, relatives and colleagues. They want to look good in their own pictures so they can feel good about themselves, knowing their FB friends see how they presently look like...

•Career. They see the career paths chosen by their friends, relatives and colleagues by reading their profile pages and viewing their pictures and albums. They want an excellent career to post on their profile pages, pictures to prove this and talk about relevant things on their Wall. They want to feel good, knowing their FB friends also know about their successful careers...

•Relationships. They see the present state or how things ended with the relationships of their friends, relatives and colleagues with their own spouse, children, parents, relatives, friends and colleagues. Posts, status messages and pictures show these things. They begin to think about their own relationships with their own spouse, children, parents, friends, relatives and colleagues. They want to be happy with their relationships so they can post it on their profile pages, show pictures to prove they're happy with their relationships and talk about it on their Walls. They want this to happen so they can feel good about themselves, knowing their FB friends also know they're happy and fulfilled with the present state of their relationships with others...

•Education. They learn about the educational pursuits of their FB friends, and begin to think of their own education. They want to pursue higher educational opportunities so they can feel good about themselves, knowing their FB friends also know their educational attainment by viewing their profile pages, looking at their pictures showing this and reading their Wall posts and status messages...

•Travel. They see where their FB friends have visited and for what purpose. They want to travel to different places and post their pictures or talk about their experience on their Walls. They know they'd feel good, knowing their FB friends also know their travel experience...

•Social status. This boils down to money, be it investments, assets, liquid funds, employee income, business income or investment income. They see how far their FB friends have gone in this aspect. Most of them think, especially in a third world country, that physical appearance, career, relationships, education and travel experience equate to the amount of money they have available to improve these sections of their lives...

So my inference was: They'd click and convert more with FB ads offering solutions to improve their finances...

My next relevant inference was: 80% of people here don't have credit cards, PayPal accounts nor the drive to buy effective solutions on the Internet. 80% of those who have credit cards and PayPal accounts aren't expected to buy online. 80% of those who could possibly purchase products online aren't willing to buy digital info products, software and service offers. So how would a Facebook ad campaign that targets FB members in the Philippines mutually benefit the target buyers and myself?

Jobs. They need jobs. Better jobs. Unemployment here is pretty high, and it's an understatement to say we have ridiculously high underemployment percentages. I can hire them to work with my company and our clientele network. So I launched a Facebook ad campaign and conveniently got a lot of applications which substantially converted to additional manpower resources, all for less than $50 worth of Facebook ad coupons. That's right: My first Facebook ad campaign was totally cost-free. And: Our new employees and homebased subcontractors get recurring solutions each month, while our company earns recurring income each month. Win-win...

Learn something at an expert level, SEO, Search, Social Media...then take action.
Internet Marketing is NOT a get rich quick scheme. The learning curve is much faster than going to a 4yr college but it takes time.

Make an action plan, write it down, and follow it. I have found that for a newbie, article marketing would be the best approach but any form of marketing you choose to do, you need a plan of action.
