How to choose the right internet marketing guru for you?

One of the difficulties of most beginners in internet marketing is knowing whom to trust. There are so many gurus out there.

Can you please share your thoughts on how a beginner can choose the right internet marketing guru for him?

Thanks.

Jose

Your best bet is to read up on forums and blogs (carefully), and ask around abit. Your choices will most likely evolve with time and experience. Though there are a few people I always go back to.

Also make sure that you are studying people who are teaching information you want to learn and can actually put to use right now. Don't even bother with stuff that doesn't immediately effect your business.

You should also try and limit your self to 1-3 people max and just study them hardcore.

If you find several people who are teaching the same stuff you want to learn then it all boils down to:
    Who inspires you?
    Who motivates you?
    Who entertains you?

Watch their videos, read their emails, read their sales letters and follow your instincts.

Who's material do you like to read and look forward to?

      Yes, very nicely said.

And if they're teaching DIFFERENT tools, methods and techniques, what most appeals to you or resonates with you as far as how you want to build your business?

If you don't like math, testing and tracking, you might not want to tackle Google AdWords, so the experts that teach that are off your list.

If you like making videos of yourself, then focus on the experts teaching video marketing.

If you have some information you want to get out, check out those that show you how to make powerful info-products.

It's all about what works for YOU, because all the experts have advice that works for some people... but nobody teaches things that work for all people.

      cheers

Seriously just read their posts & see who adds value on the forum for FREE. Them guys/gals are most likely to be on the up & up and their products will probably deliver. Anyone trustworthy will have a return policy.

As someone who's bought only about 5 ebooks ($30 or less), not all IM related but had the return policy in mind made it easier. I've never had to return one as most were good & worth it. Even if you take 1 good light bulb idea/concept from it, it's worth it IMO.

Even Don Lapre's package I bought years back from an infomercial about "making thousands from his tiny 1 bedroom apt. posting tiny classified ads" pkg I still got value out of & made a few bucks off of beyond the $30 or $40 I paid for it. I didn't make thousands off it but bought & resold some stuff for profit fairly quickly & it got me out of a pinch to get rent paid a few years later when I took action on it so that alone was worth it.

I bought air conditioners & box springs/mattresses in the middle of summer from garage sales for cheap & posted them in a free classified ad newspaper (would have still worked even if I paid the $20 or whatever for paid ad) I think he's out of business now but it was all basic info I could use, add a little creativity to so I got value out of it.

Also don't just subscribe to one persons ideas, keep an open mind. 2 or 3 is good but 3-5 is ideal as most give free info in various media forms.

It's up to you to decide what makes sense to you logically & dismiss the rest then to blend it all together adding your own unique thoughts to make something work.

SHORT VERSION: Success always leave clues.

      Here's how I learn:

Sign up for all of their newsletters. Then, PAY ATTENTION.

Dig deep and look for all the subtle marketing that's going on. Order a low-end product and pay close attention to the process you are brought through.

By doing that you'll start to see which gurus market in ways that are comfortable and appealing to you. Then you can decide whom to study and whose 'big box' products to buy and seminars to go to.

When people ask me for my internet marketing secrets, I tell them there are none. All they have to do is sign up for my list and watch and learn! The techniques are all there out in the open. This is true as well for the big gurus who want to sell you a "secret" for two grand when you can join their list and see it happening right in front of your face.

The real guru/mentor is the one who share their skills and secrets for FREE.Personally, I got 3 mentors.

    1)Jimmy D Brown
    2)Yanik Silver
    3)Joe Vitale

These are my top 3 gurus that I've personally bought their products, benefited, subscribed to their list, and following them on TWITTER (except Jimmy because he don't have one).I love the personal touch and inspiration that they'll give you in their emails. And most importantly,Jimmy Brown,is the real guru who gives most IM secrets for FREE while other 'gurus' ask you to pay for their junks.

I had the same issue. There are so many Gurus to follow. When I started out, I signed up for a bunch of newsletters and RSS feeds. But, my emailbox and RSS reader got clogged up with advice - and offers, lots of offers. Slogging through 1000s of entries was tough but I persevered.

Eventually, I got an idea on how to make this task easier. I aggregated all my Guru Feeds into one web page - kinda like PopUrls or Alltop. Now, I skim through all the latest GuruThink and just "click then read" on what is interesting. I can also see if there is a trend developing across multiple Guru Feeds.

You can build something like this yourself, but rather than that, I've published my feed aggregator at a site called Gururls.com

It's free (and ad-free too for now). You don't need to sign up for anything...not even an email list. I hope it helps newbies and oldbies alike.

Do me a favor though. If you like it, tell me why. If you don't, tell me why. Thanks in advance.

I used to sell this Squidoo training course (it was even a WSO once), now I'm giving it away at Free Squidoo Training. It's my way of giving back to the IM community.

Being a Noob myself, what ive been observing is that whoever's newletter you sign up for, they all eventually flood your inbox with the hottest, newest, biggest, money making product of the moment. that tends to get under my skin but its a part of the biz and i get it.

Another thing im learning is how many different niches of IM there really are. there are many from selling products (yours or someone else's), affiliate marketing, ebooks, bum, plr's, list, blogging, articles, selling web sites, etc.

Then within all of those. Different folks have there own spin on to promote/sell each of them. it can get really tricky.

Another issue im having is the enormous amount of learning that goes forth into taking this biz serious. Basic affiliate marketing, seo, article marketing, bloggin, lead pages, building list, sales copy, tracking, web design, finding a niche, product research and development, ppc campaigns, the list goes on and on and on. Now, I know i fall into the classic stereotype of trying to learn everything first before i act noob. Please, Dont fall into this category cuz i overwhelmed myself with learning everything instead of acting on what ive learned thus far.

I really boils down to what part of the IM world appeals to your strengths. I have yet to find this out myslef. But once i do, ill be going on the tim ferris low information diet and start to focus on just that.

    Hope that helps.
