Need advice. Selling a website, have a buyer. Need to know how much its worth.

The site is a gaming forum about a particular game that is quite old now. (over a year) I have a buyer who is willing to pay 1,000 right now. He wants to merge my DB with his own gaming networks and use the traffic on the domain to make money with hotkeys (i think)

The stats are:
89000 posts
10000 threads
9000 members
40,000-50,000 uniques per month. (100% organic)

Pagerank= 3
Yahoo site explorer inlinks: 17000
Domain age: almost 2 years
Google Indexed Pages:73000
Alexa backlinks: 200
Bing indexed pages: 1500
Compete rank: 195,000
Alexa ranking: 600,000

I really don't want to sell it, but I could use the cash for my next projects. Just a few months ago I was getting 6k offers on the site. I have not had time to even admin the site, I don't care about it... BUT it is useful to backlink my new projects, I embed some youtube videos on autoplay to gain some quick views and over all it's a great tool to have. The site is bound to die IMO as the game is stale, and I don't see how it could last more than 1-2 years. I am just too busy to run it as I have many other sites that take up my time.

My question...
Would you sell it?
Is it worth more than 1,000 ?

Any help is appreciated
And please don't tell me to go to flippa, I've had a bad experience with them.

I forgot to add, the site is making me around 200-300 a month (but the earnings are dropping month by month) ... I don't see how it could last any longer.

  • No way I would sell it for that little. Even at $200 a month that's still making you $2,400 a year. I think what he really wants is your database, which is potentially MUCH more valuable.

woooooooot anything that is getting 50,000 views a month is worth more than a thousand, lets say that you advertise some game reviews or guides that give you $40 commission, and lets say it converts 1%, lets say that only 20% get into any link for these guides, so thats 100*$40= 4000 dlls a month, I'd say it worth at least 5,000 but would go for 10,000 or so... I hope my opinion helps for you avoid making a silly decision haha

No you can't. Not on a old game that people are loosing interests in. 90% of my visitors are poor / young / broke gamers with no money.

Oh, I did miss about it being an old game, but that doesn't really matter. Gamers are hardly broke. They spent billions of dollars last year, and that's why just the database is so valuable.

And 40,000 unique views a month is darn good.

I would definitely try Flippa, and with those numbers plus the member database I wouldn't take less than $5k.

BTW: Definitely don't mention to a potential buyer about making less and less each month. I would just put that it averages $xxxx a month, whatever that number is.

Agreed. And that doesn't even factor in the worth of the database. 9,000 members targeted to his niche.

I've tried to monetize that site to the fullest. I could never top 500 a month even in its hey day. Yes, its making 200 a month now... But what about next month? And the next? I got the charts in front of my eyes and I see them dropping month by month.

I should REALLY try to convince myself to try flippa again, I know there are people out there who can probably still squeeze out good money from this.

I've had it with that site to be honest. I've put so many resources into it, and in my opinion its a big flop. I make way more with my other sites that have less traffic.

The problem is that almost all visitors already own the game so there isn't really anything you can sell them. Most gamers are internet savvy and they don't fall for any affiliate ads. I've tried guides / tutorials / private membership with nice bonuses .... Nothing made any significant money. Screw gamers, I am moving on. (btw this is not my only gaming site... I opened a few others and they are currently exploding with traffic... Still... not the kinda money I would hope for)
