AMAZON - A Heads Up

So many posts on here refer to setting up Amazon sites under so many domains.

A word of caution.

Some time ago I set up several sites running Amazon code to display various products. After a considerable time I noticed that most sites did not even have any clicks. On contacting the support at Amazon I found that the first domain you registered with them counted, all subsequent ones did not and therefore no clicks were recorded.

They must 'approve' your domain first before they set their clickthroughs in motion. So if you set up many domains with the same Amazon code and i.d you need to alert them and get them to approve each site.

Thought you good folks would appreciate the heads up.

    I assume this can only be for UK sites. I've never encountered an issue such as you describe here in the US.

    Im with Amazon.com I haven't experienced this. The clicks are recorded.

    Does it only apply to Amazon.co.uk

      I use Amazon.com, Amazon UK and Amazon Canada and have had sales with all three using multiple sites (different domains). I have not found this to be an issue. The only thing I do use a different tracking number for each site.

    The sites were using Amazon.com code, so the first site was registered with them and all the others were not. I have not used Amazon.co.uk I don't know if there is a difference with all Amazon divisions worldwide, I should imagine their rules are the same no matter where you are.

      Well, I have multiple Amazon niche sites, plus 10 HubPages (testing the waters for new niches), and I've never been asked/directed to register any of them with Amazon prior ro any form of acceptance. All feed to the US Amazon.com :confused:

    Does Amazon mention this anywhere on their site? You'd imagine they would as it's quite a big issue for affiliates.

    I've never been asked to approve any domains, either. I don't even remember supplying a domain to them.

        The OP said he was using Amazon.com though not UK.

        Im confused as to what is going on but this doesn't apply to most people clearly.

    Just visited Amazon.com did not take long. As I was told I needed to have each subsequent site 'approved' before I could use their code on them. This is what you signed up to:-

    Associates Program Operating Agreement

    "2. Enrollment
    To begin the enrollment process, you must submit a complete and accurate Program application. You must identify your site in your application. We will evaluate your application and notify you of its acceptance or rejection. We may reject your application if we determine that your site is unsuitable."

      Yes, I totally understand (now), that this provision is part of their affiliate agreement. I've been an Amazon affiliate for many years (long before it became in vogue), so maybe longevity counts for something with them, because I've never been asked to register sites before they start earning me money. I have just one Amazon account and use multiple tracking IDs under that one account.

    I have several sites displaying amazon products and I have never faced this issue. The clicks are registered properly without the need to approve the sites. Tony, it is correct that the enrollment requires a proper site but is it mentioned anywhere that each subsequent site would need an approval?

      I found this info regarding multiple web sites, you need to record all the web sites for your account:-

      I have more than one Web site. How do I enroll all of them in your program?

      You may use a single account and Associates ID for multiple Web sites. You can list all of your Web sites in the description field in Your Associates Account Information. If you need separate reporting for each site, please visit "Your Account" and click on "Manage your Tracking ID" link to request unique tracking IDs for each site. Please note that there is a limit of 100 Tracking IDs per associate account. If you have further requirements, please contact Associates Customer Service


      We do not recommend that you create an Associates account for each Web site. It will be much easier for you to keep track of your earnings if you use a single account.

    I'm sure they tell you to get it approved but them saying all other site clicks aren't recorded is untrue - I'm constantly setting up new sites and making sales without approval.

    I've never had any problem like this.

    I have Amazon affilaite links set up on multiple domains with different tracking ID's

    My account shows click tracking & converion rates for all domains

    All without any approval.

      This is not true at all.

      When I opened my account I used my IM blog as my website which has no Amazon products on it.

      I then created all my Amazon sites and sent the traffic to Amazon and all got tracked 100%.

      Everything is still tracked just fine.

    I've had many Amazon sites and have never run into this problem. I had one initial domain approved but use the same code on all my Amazon sites.

      I've seen the request for websites and such that the OP posted.
      But I don't think this has to do with being an affiliate.
      Without digging thru stuff again, my memory says this was for accepting Amazon payments on your site. You can't just put the code there your site has to be approved.

      Never had a problem using affiliate code anywhere. Hubpages, Squidoo, blogs, Facebook, everywhere.

    This is false. You've confused it with being approved on a site-by-site basis when wanting to get set up to accept Amazon payments at your sites, not for Amazon Associates doing affiliate marketing.

        Jan, they don't publicize it, but Amazon has a payment service similar to Google Checkout or even , slightly, to Paypal.

    Tony,

    Seeing as you seem to be the only person experiencing this problem, I think you should look closer to home for a solution.

    Are you using the same merchant ID for each site? If so, you'll have no way of knowing which site got the clicks.

    Are you using some kind of plugin for link cloaking? If so, are you sure it's sending your affiliate codes properly?

    Are you using an Amazon AWS plugin to pull in product information? If so, are you sure you have it set up properly?

    I think you should contact Amazon and get an explanation from them about this. It seems clear you are the only person or at least one of very few who are having this problem. I have had multiple sites promoting products and never had that problem, they all count.

    Never had that issue as well. I only have 2 sites using Amazon as my aff program and they all get tracked. Maybe you misunderstood?

    I used to use re-directs which may have caused the problem but Amazon seems to have softened there attiturde (maybe a change of staff!). I just received a reply on the email from their customer service for associates:-

    If you would like to add another website or multiple websites to your
    existing Associates account, we first need to view and approve the
    site's content before it can be added. We like for members to add all
    of their sites to their account in order for us to test links within
    those sites. Again, if you add a link to any site without letting us
    know, the links are still active on that site, we would just not know
    where all of your links activity is coming from as you did not add
    additional URLs to your account. Please send us the URLs for the sites, and we will review them and let
    you know our decision. Once approved, we will send you instructions on
    how to add the URLs to your account. You can contact us back by using
