Internet images not showing on any site

Hello Warriors, I know that this is not IM related and I hope that the mods will keep this post up until I get an answer. The trouble I am having is with my mums new laptop. Whenever I go to a website, half the images or links do not show, I will give tou a few examples. When at Google home page, the Google logo above the searchbar is missing, when I go to one of my websites, the background image does not show. Other sites links do not show, ie click here for next page, download here etc. Thielinks are there because when I mouse over where links should be I see the tag description of the image or link, thank God for proper SEO. I thought that it could be a problem with Java? soI updated that along with Adobe flash, still does not solve the problem. I have checked various browsers and it is still the same. I just thought that I would call on your colective experience to help me solve this problem. Thanks for taking the time to read, Robert.

This sounds to me like a settings adjustment in your browser,if you are on firefox go to tools and then options and then content, the boxes there should be ticked.

Hi Steven, thank you for your reply. I also thought that it could have been one of those settings. I know that I checked it in the past, but I have since double checked and all the boxes are ticked. The problem also happens in Explorer and Chrome.

      Anymore ideas?

I assume you are running windows7 on your computer, first if you have system restore point try restoring it back to the last restore point or what you can do is try and do a repair install with windows 7,that will reset all your drivers and settings back to default but you won't lose your files, that will probably fix the problem because it sounds like something is corrupt on your system.

If this was my computer I would have done that the same day instead of wasting weeks trying to figure out whats worng, even a fresh install would only take less than an hour.
I actually just found a link where they are talking about the same problem and they also did a repair install which solved the problem your having.

  • If this is happening in all the browsers you have tried, then it almost certainly has to be a problem within your machine.

One thing you might check is to make sure that Java is enabled in your settings. It won't do any good to update it if isn't enabled.

Are you running any ad protection software or anything similar? Occasionally they will get a bit too trigger-happy.

In the areas where the images are missing, is there a red X or just nothing at all?

And one last thing to try: Use Firefox to go to Google, since we know that images are not showing there already. When the page loads, right-click on the page, and then click on 'View Page Info'. In the window that pops up, click on the 'Media' tab. Click on those image names in the list. Do the pics show up there, or are they still not showing?

First of all thank you Bradley for your time.

Yes Java is enabled in the settings, although today I disabled the "Java console" in the Firefox browser/ add-ons, I got the Google logo to appear above the search bar and thought that the problem was solved (at least in Firefox.) On other sites Images are missing along with background colour of website, I.E. one of my websites has a floral header and the main page is light green, no header shows, and the page is white.

I am running AVG total security on that laptop, mine and my Dads. On all computers, AVG is set to it's default setting so I do not believe that to be the issue as this is the first time I have seen anything like this. (I will give it the once over after their guests leave on Sunday just in case something got clicked that should not have)

In the areas where the images are missing, is there a red X or just nothing at all?

They are just missing and turns all web pages white, no matter what colour it was meant to be ie a green, blue or black page shows up white.
I can mouse over white space on the site (where I know an image or link is) and the pointer on the screen changes to a hand with the description or alt tag showing i.e. apple jpeg, when I mouse over where links should be, I sometimes get a description, but because the pointer turns to a hand, I know it is a clickable object, but don't know what i am clicking

And one last thing to try: Use Firefox to go to Google, since we know that images are not showing there already. I have not tried that and will give it a go, but, if the description/alt tag is showing when i mouse over white space I do not think that is the problem, I will give it a go though, although I wont be able to try until Monday.

Like I said it I have tried 3 browsers and it all has the same problem, so I have no idea what is causing the problem in them all.

Images not appearing sounds like a poor internet connection. Have you tried another connection? However change of image colours...??? Never heard of this problem before.

Thanks never heard of this problem before myself. I know she is wireless and can stream tv and movies ( if Ishow her where to click) so the connection is more than likely ok, but I will hard wire it when I see her next.
I could phone the support team? but I do not believe they could help as it is an unusual problem. That is why I came here first as I know collectively any problem could be solved

Yeah, that's what has me stumped, as well. I don't see how the background color could change like that. I would definitely try the modem re-set suggestion, though. It certainly can't hurt, although I've never personally experienced those symptoms before.

@Handwritten Articles - I couldn't imagine losing images for 2 months! I'm sure I would have been so frustrated by then I would have tossed the whole machine out the window.

I've been a programmer for almost 30 years, though, and I can tell you that in situations like these, it is the simplest answer that usually works.

    • Its your router or modem.

      Reset your internet connection.

I had this happen. Took me 2 months to figure it out.
