Followup vs Broadcasting message for email marketing

Hi all, do you prefer followup message or broadcasting message when doing email marketing?

I realize some of the email marketing guru are doing broadcasting message, and their content will always up to date, but it seems a lot of work need to constantly update.

Which one do you prefer? And why..?

Note: Currently I am doing internet marketing and personal development niche.

Thank you!!

  • Broadcasts, easily.

Most promotions are time sensitive, particularly in the IM niche (and to a lesser extent, personal development).

If you focus on follow ups, you could be sending out an email to a prospect two years after it was originally written.

It is, of course, sensible to schedule a limited number of follow ups when someone joins a new list, so you can 'warm them up' and pitch a few timeless products. But, most of the effort will be going into things that are timely in nature.

You shouldn't be worried about the work required either, as the whole of marketing is that it's 'work'. Keeping up to date with promotions and working out what is best for your particular list is just a small part of that.

Yeah, broadcasts are what I call "money shots" - at least in the IM niche. I use an autoresponder series for new subscribers to build trust and ease them into my funnel. As long as your subscribers come to trust you and what you recommend, you're golden. Just remember, you can lose that trust with one bad offer. Always look out for your subscribers' best interests and be picky about what you send them. Use autoresonder messages to build trust and broadcasts to sell things, at least if you're in a niche where timing and freshness of the offers are important.

I use both. I prefer a long follow-up series, and then use broadcasts as well to keep up with subs who have surpassed the last email in the followup series.
