Sub Domain Question

INTERNET MARKETING

If I have a weight loss company and we have a total separate program focused on "Corporate Wellness" (business weight loss programs.)

Is it better to put the corporate wellness on a subdomain or on its own domain? Will one rank better than the other? Any advice?

It's still related with our company but we want it to be slightly separated from our original patient website.

The subdomain won't rate at all. It needs its own domain.

Most SEs see sub-domains as separate sites. This is especially true if you disallow indexing from the main domain, buy a 7$ URL and point it at the sub domain.

  This would work for the sub-domain, but then you would lose the ranking of the main domain itself.
  
  If you want both to rank, they need 2 separate domains.

Yes, why anyone would use anything but a 301 escapes me. As to the new $7 domain, just point it to the sub-domain in your c-panel or other tool depending on where you bought it.

And why not use two separate websites, then make some link exchange ?

Well I am just trying to rank for a particular search query so I thought if I could get a exact match domain, then 301 redirect it to the subdomain that would be fine...

I think Google use to have issues with clientside redirects, don't know about serverside. I don't see too many subdomains coming up in Google searches though. I'd go two seperate domains unless there's a good reason not to.
