Mike I totally agree you on that one. I wasn't very convinced the first time I saw "proof of income" when I know how to do that fake statistics X.x

I just feel bad for those people who get warm fuzzy feelings once they see the numbers running by the scam artist.

I agree but people do and when I first started online I have to admit that seeing those screen shots (video wasn't big yet) made the $ signs go off in my head.

Now I don't pay any attention to proof of income but newbies do and the fact that people fake it should be seen as fraud or theft by deception

Yeah, in this day and age just about anything can be faked. You need to make sure you look at the whole package. Do background checks on the company/person selling and see if they really know what they are talking about.

Sadly, so many people fall for this stuff...

Wow - a shocking video.

I think people should just be weary of trusting screenshots and videos alone.

I think the most important thing you must do if you're handing over money for a product or service, do a background check.

If the product doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Don't buy.

Screenshots or statements are no more proof of income than being photographed beside a Ferrari is proof of ownership.

They've just become sales page conventions/cliches.

The best due diligence is a recommendation from someone you know and/or trust. Or the known history of the product creator.

Everything else is "Buyer Beware" and always has been.

If you pay close attention to the links on the top they look a lot different then what they normally do when visiting the website. The links in the tabs look blue. This is pretty sad but I am sure a lot of people do it. It just goes to show you to not trust any earnings screenshots like other posters were saying. It is too bad they are a big part of internet marketing.

You're right deception isn't good at all - and its sad some people choose to follow this road when they can have real $$ coming in with a bit of consistency, dedication and trial and error....

One thing we all may agree on is that making money online is possible....so even if im looking at fake earnings....it doesn't matter - it serves as motivation for me and it fuels me to continue working on my own business....

in fact even if they are faking it - im totally fine because it fuels me with motivation....

I can't believe this, first I find out the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park weren't real and now this! Special effects are ruining my childhood dreams!

Really though, someone in the IM niche scamming people? SHOCK HORROR!

For every genuine person in IM there are probably 50 scam artists. The industry breeds them and many people on this very forum are probably full of BS to try and sell their WSO. (Please notice I said many and not all)

Anyway, I never believe those proof of revenue shots, but people do so they arent going away anytime soon

All someone has to do is alter the html source code of the page they're showing you. This makes the end result (the web page) identical to what it would look like if it was real.

So... how would a newbie go about protecting him/herself? Other than simply "buyer beware"? I ask because I'm guessing that the fakes will become ever more clever as time goes on, and more people will fall victim to the well disguised scams.

It's too bad that there isn't some sort of 3rd party verification system; a "truth in advertising" infrastructure.

I think it helps to take into consideration the person actually showing the screen shots.

Of course I wouldn't believe every video I saw of someone showing their earnings. However, there are many of us that would never jeopardize our reputation, or enjoyment of living free of jail and incarceration.

I think it's safe to say if Allen Says did a video walk thru of his Paypal account, most of us would believe him. Big Mike? We'd believe him. Steven Wagenheim? We'd believe him.
Some random guy from Singapore? I doubt it.

So much comes down to the individual and your existing knowledge of or relationship with them.

This is true in any sales situation

"Proof" elements without trust build skepticism and only convince the most desperate or naive.

He did mention that marketers who have built up their reputation would never pull such a stunt because of everything they have to loose. The problem seems to me that scammers make it 10 times harder for those of us who are honest; trying to provide a valuable service. Whats the saying "One bad apple ruins the whole bunch" or "Guilt by association" if a person gets scammed by 1 internet marketer than they all must be bad.

Of course its not the bad but it does make it harder to overcome their fears

As soon as I saw the video I realised how they do it.

Problem for me is that I'm looking at buying websites and even if I did a remote desktop to validate income this 'trick' would still be un-detectable to me.

It was only a matter of time. I NEVER believe ANY income claims. You have to evaluate the program then ask yourself if you could make money with it. That's the only income I'm concerned with.

I think any proof should be taken with a pinch of salt unless it's from someone I know and trust. It forms part of my due diligence on a product/person. Seems to be many 'suspect' screenshots and/or videos out there for me.

In regards to these screenshots then should honest marketers who have valid screenshots not use them and prove their income in another way? I'm wondering what to do. I'd hate to show a screenshot of earnings if its going to bring up negative feelings or open questions of distrust. On the other hand since we will be offering a refund, does it matter then? Thanks for the help! Interesting topic. I am too innocent and totally gullible apparently and had never imagined people would be so deceptive as to fake screen shots like that!
