What if someone started an UNRESTRICTED version of Fiverr?

Hi Warriors,

I've been thinking about doing this, despite the hundreds of Fiverr clones already out there.

I want to start a similar service as Fiverr, but get rid of everything that's ever annoyed me about Fiverr, as well as make it attractive to do business on.

A few of those things would include:

1. Buyer pays $5 for the service, and seller gets the whole $5. We don't keep anything.

2. No restrictions on messaging... if people want to directly communicate with each other via email and what not, they can knock themselves out. We can even facilitate it by making it easy to e-mail a buyer/seller instead of sending them a direct message.

3. Allow more characters in gig description and messages.

4. Possibly have a forum for the community to interact through.

5. A 'better' feedback system than the one which currently exists on Fiverr.

Those are just some random things off the top of my head. I've been thinking of some real 'twists' to the idea though and as soon as one hits me I'll probably get it rolling.

I wouldn't care about monetizing it, I would just care about building a user-base and a track-record and worry about monetization later. Monetization doesn't have to mean charging a service fee... it can be monetized just like any other online business via AdSense, affiliate offers, private advertising, etc.

I know this is nothing ground breaking but something I've been thinking about for a little while nonetheless.

What's you all thinks??

    Hi Ian,

It's an interesting twist and if you got enough people on board it would certainly do well. The thing with a lot of services like this online is the amount of advertising that is needed to get the ball rolling, especially when there is a lot of 'competition' (fiverr clones)

There are several clones who do not take a cut (yet).

What makes Fiverr truly useful for both buyer and provider is it provides a safe place to 'test' working together.

What makes it annoying is the 20% cut, the restrictions, the lack of forum, etc (as you pointed out). Heck, I don't even care about the cut as much as the restrictions. Make it more user-friendly.

    I say, go for it
