No, I don't think that internet marketers will
stop forming informal alliances, and cross-promoting
each others products any time soon.
I also don't see anything wrong with supporting the
projects of those who help you out with your projects,
as long as the products measure up, and are something
customers really need... and there is a natural fit.
I DID find it very refreshing when one of my old
"guru" buddies sent me an email recently that
started out stating the he did NOT consider my
promoting his product as in any way obligating him
to consider promoting one of mine.
He explicitly said that I should ONLY promote his
product if I saw the value... and for no other
reason.
I promoted it.
He used reverse psychology on me, as a seasoned
marketer I knew what he was doing, and I went along
with it!
Maybe my buddy was using some of that mind control
marketing that he wrote about in a book about several
years ago.
