Please Help Me Lay Out The SEO Structure For The Authority Review Site I Am Building

I am still pretty new at the IM game. I made a few sites around just one product here and there and have made a few bucks doing it. But now I am ready for more. I will build an authority site reviewing products.

I think I have an idea of a good SEO website structure to work with. I will tell you my plan and if I am wrong, please let me know. Also if you know of any good Warrior Forum threads about this, I would love to read them.

First and foremost is the main keyword. I know this is most important. I feel confidant that my keyword and domain name are good ones.

Then there are the categories. The categories should be keywords in their own right. These are generally secondary keywords. Perhaps they are not as strong as the main keyword but they should bring in extra traffic and support the main keyword.

Third is the reviews themselves. I will choose to review products that are not so competitive and bring in 300-800 exact local traffic per month.

Finally, the content of the actual reviews. These should consist of LSI keywords for the product.

I've heard it is best in the beginning to have 6-8 categories with 6 product reviews in each. Then I should focus on building backlinks to all of the pages on the site and once some momentum is built, then it is time to add more reviews and pages.

What do you think of this strategy? Am I on the right track? Any input is much appreciated!

    Be careful here. Target your head phrase + brand for your home page. Do not target too many keywords with the homepage. The content on your inner pages will be more relevant and have higher conversions if some one lands on those pages as opposed to the home page.

    Branding Branding Branding. That is key to your home page. Make sure to start off your H1 tag with your brand. Move to the H2 tag for a min keyword and flow to the H3 tag for another main keyword.

    In building backlinks, focus branding anchor text to the home page. I do 60% brand and split the other keywords across the remaining 40%

    Then there are the categories. The categories should be keywords in their own right. These are generally secondary keywords. Perhaps they are not as strong as the main keyword but they should bring in extra traffic and support the main keyword.

    Forget secondary keywords. Use your categories to target the broad spectrum of keywords that are not product specific. If you have a category for walking shoes. Target all phrases for generic walking shoes type keywords on the category pages.


    Third is the reviews themselves. I will choose to review products that are not so competitive and bring in 300-800 exact local traffic per month.

    Make sure each review is only accessible from one URL, otherwise you will have duplicate content. Although there is no penalty ,it will weight your content down. If using Wordpress, install All In One SEO and make sure thee canonical URL box is checked. This will create one main version of the URL and tag the other duplicates as duplicates.

    Have as many categories as makes logical sense. Usability is a big factor. The only thing to be concerned with is how deep the pages go. I try to only go category>subcat>content. That is as far as I like to go. The closer the page to the root, the better for rankings and indexing.

    What do you mean "target the broad spectrum of keywords that are not product specific?" Are you saying make a category for a walking shoes type of keywords and then include reviews of walking shoes in there?

    What does brand anchor text for internal pages mean? You mean backlink to the internal pages that I am trying to rank for. Am I right on that?
