I haven't been in Internet Marketing long enough to know many things about this business. But I have been learning few truths so far. One of which is:

Many internet marketing gurus present internet marketing as either very easy or very difficult, both for the purpose of selling. But am coming to realize that the truth lies in between. It's not that very difficult if you know how. But learning how, takes much hard and smart work.

I have yet to learn more in order to thrive in this business.

Can you also please share some of the truths you know about internet marketing, for the benefit of my fellow beginners.

Thanks so much for sharing.

Jose

I think it's all about your mindset. It has come easy for me all along by believing that what I'm doing will work.

Making big money however was a mental block in my mind. Then I did a small product launch to just my own list and a tiny group of affiliates and it was successful, so that block was removed and I understand how simple it is to make HUGE money online with careful planning.

Many people self-sabotage and never achieve the success that is sitting right there in front of them.

I don't know about any "real truth" about IM aside from the fact that it can be very hard work to get started.

Just read thru the forum here and draw your own conclusions.

What works for you will be "your truth".

    Something I realized is this:

    1. If you have a couple thousand $$ to start you could be making profits very soon
    2. Don't have that money? Get working...and get working intense, work to reach your goals.

Im not saying that you don't have to work if you have a start up capital...but it does make it ALOT easier.

Ex: A guy in my city, has some really good software programs, he didn't know ANYTHING about internet marketing, yet in 6 months he did over $50.000 in pure profits...how?

He had contracts with 2-3 companies that asked him to make some type of applications...he found out about IM and realised that he could do better selling on his own in the US/UK software market.
He had $5000 to start with so...he outsourced website design, article writing, some PPC managing...most of the basic stuff so he could concentrate on making the product as good as it can be and learning IM so he can do even more.

Yes, no doubt that IM is one of the most competitive arenas to jump into. I have found though that if folks just stick with the basics, they will eventually achieve success.

By basics I mean work out a overall gameplan, then break it down into daily and weekly goals and activities, and then stay consistent with those activities.

Everyone that I have taught and have stayed CONSISTENT has become successful.

Thank you Frank and everyone above, for adding that. You can learn from my mistakes because I've made many. I put my first website up about 10yrs ago. Shortcut- figure out how to monetize first. Just my $.02 I wish ya'll success.

PS- my name is Phil too.

PSS- only tell anyone half of what you really know until you trust them like a brother.

    PSSS- someone please add more.

I think the biggest "secret" to internet marketing is that there isn't a secret. When I first started I pushed my way to talking to some of the more experienced marketers. I kept digging around trying to find out what was different, why were they so successful? WHAT WERE THEY HIDING?

Turns out, the big difference is that they get out there and do the work.

Sure, you need a plan, and you need to know what you are doing, but the biggest dealbreaker is that you need to get out there and do it!

    Hi Jose,

Well for me, it will depend on the experience of the person to decide if it is easy or not.
I may be lucky to say it's easy for me because I'm a techie person with some knowledge in sales and marketing offline. There are some people who are not 100% know use the Internet/computer, so how can they will be easily learn Internet marketing if they still struggle learning to surf the Internet. Obviously depend on the capacity of the person to learn and share the knowledge. They can say it's very hard because when they start learning the Internet marketing, it's very for them and they can say it's very easy because it's very easy for them to learn it. We all don't have the same capacity to absorb what we want to learn.

Another truth, list building and content is king.

One more thing, not all hobbies are profitable or saleable.

    • Isn't that the million dollar question Jose!

I think you're dead on with the "in the middle" part. My personal thought is this:

It's a hard or as easy as you want it to be.

Personally, I think getting up every morning at some ridiculous hour, fighting through hellish traffic to sit behind some desk or drive all over town to please an idiot boss for pennies is hard.

Lifting 70-200 pound boxes all day in a 100 degree or freezing warehouse is hard.

And have you ever watch the show where they show the crappiest jobs?

That's hard. (think working in a sewage plant... yuck )

Sitting at home reading some books, learning how to make a fortune and having fun while you're doing it doesn't really qualify as "hard" to me. Solving problems for other folks and improving their quality of life is not very hard.

But is darn sure ain't easy.

I struggled frustrated the first six months I started back in 2006. Since then I've learned a few things that have made it 1000 times easier.

      I hope sharing them helps...

      1. Get a mentor IMMEDIATELY after you make the decision to start.

It will cut your learning curve immensely and you can avoid a bunch of headaches and frustrations and money. Paying someone $2000 to learn how to make $2000 or more a month just makes sense. But, be very careful in which one you choose. Think that goes without saying. Hmm, then why did I say it?

      2. Outsourcing is your friend.

I was blown away at how cheap you can get 90% of anything you do done by someone else. Even though I knew how to do most of the stuff myself, my profits grew in leaps and bounds when I started outsourcing most of my work. It allowed me to focus on building my business instead of doing grunt work. As much as I love building web sites and creating graphics, I'm wasn't making real money doing that.

And you can start making money right away. So the excuse "I don't know how to do that" is no longer valid. You might not, but there are a thousand or so folks that do.

I don't know how to rebuild an engine, but it's never stopped me from buying a car.

      3. Internet marketing is 90% learning how to market, not learning about the Internet.

I think the term "Internet Marketing" should be outlawed. It gives a false impression that the Internet makes you money. It's not the Internet making the money - it's good marketing and good sales techniques that make the money. The Internet is just an avenue to do it faster, easier and to a whole lot more folks.

So tell your newbies to become 100% consumed by learning marketing and sales. Eat marketing, sleep marketing, dream marketing, drink marketing and spend as much of their waking moments learning anything and everything about marketing.

Tell them to marry marketing and make little marketing babies.

(OK, maybe that one was overkill ...)

      4. The mindset is everything. I created a training product once for the MLM/Network marketing industry that talked about how important your mindset is when you're getting into any business venture. >> Ooh - note to self: repurpose the same product for the IM industry<<

We've all heard and watched The Secret and the hundred and fifty thousand knockoff books and trainings that came out of it. But, it's remarkable how true it is. Sometimes even scary.

Now everyone together: We become what we think about most.

      5. And this one probably should have been first but I'm too tired (my way of saying lazy) to cut/paste and renumber my list.

TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT YOU THINK YOU'RE READY YET.

"The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure".
      ~Sven Goran Eriksson

"Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently."
      ~Henry Ford

Too many "newbies" (my former self included) become professional students instead of becoming professional action takers. Reading 400 ebooks and buying 150 home courses ain't gonna make no cash (my English teacher is probably turning in her grave right now...).

Take one day each week to read/learn something new, then 4 more days DOING IT and perfecting it.

And it's perfectly OK that you're not making money on the first few projects or attempts. Document everything so you can go back and learn what you did wrong. Heck, even make a product out of it to sell to others! I wouldn't mind paying $30 or so to learn from your $2000 mistakes.

      Hope it helps.

Nothing is more important than knowing "how to market, NOTHING."

Master this and the money will flow.

The Internet is so easy for me. I had 25 years experience in markting offline before I started to Market via the Internet.

TV, Radio, Print media, Internet, Carrier Pigeon, it's all the same. Just a different media.

    Hi Jose:

Welcome to the forum and the world of internet marketing.

One thing I would like to share is something many beginners rush into too quickly. When you see a sales pitch about how much money a person earned and even if the screen shots are legit that should not be the reason to convince you to purchase the product.

You want to know not how much they earned in total for the year but how much was through the systems they are teaching. If an individual sells a 2000.00 course to 50 people that is 100,000 in income. That amount doesn't put funds in your pocket. It is the methods of article writing, video marketing, affiliate products, and so on that you want to see what you could potentially earn.

Don't be dazzled by dollars. Research all products, read, listen, and take your time.

    Good luck.
