I never heard of them. I'd go with Godaddy, you can search on google for "godaddy coupons" and have a nice discount.

You are starting a new venture then why should you take risk for few bucks? Use any reputed domain regestrar. Take advantage of coupouns. You will get about 7 to 8 dollars/year regestration.

listen just because its cheap doesn't mean it's good because when come renewal time I can almost guarantee your renewal fees will skyrocket. So take it from an experienced domainer

find yourself a domain name coupon at NP (NamePros) and go with that. Here's a list of reputable registry's: Godaddy, Dynadot, Name, NameCheap, DomainMonster, Moniker, etc.

I use namecheap.com.

And before I register ANYTHING I do a Google search for namecheap coupons for that month. Ex: "namecheap coupons April 2011"

Seems each month they have a new coupon that brings the price down. I just paid $9.28 for a new domain registration today.

Coupon code for April 2011 is: ELEPHANTS

You would think that, with all the big-money advertising 1and1 does in all the computer mags, they would be a reputable company, but I've heard nothing but horror stories about them.

I've had clients that I serviced using 1on1. I don't really like it because they use a windows based server (at least when the ones I worked on). I prefer linux based servers.

But the OP was asking about domain registration.

Here's a funny one.... try explaining to an offline client or someone who's brand new the difference between their domain manager and their hosting manager. OMG

Disclaimer: I think it's important for me to add this. 1on1 is by all accounts a reputable company and I am NOT saying not to use them. I simply prefer linux based servers.... i just like them better.

However, I believe you did not read my post correctly.
Where do you read "their excellent customer support" in my post?

Here's what I said: "$4.95/domain and 7/365 plus 1-800 Support. I'm using them for years without any problems."

What do you want me say if that's the way it's in my particular case?
Having over 200 domains with them, do you think I would keep it in there
if I was just suspicious of something wrong?

Yet another 1and1 horror story direct from a Warrior herself, and also a prime example of why domain registration and hosting should never be through the same company:

In all fairness to 1and1, it seems this woman got what she signed up for in TOS terms, but it shows yet another dissatisfied customer who is just plain stuck.

I have never heard of them too. I normally buy my domain and hosting with hostgator as I get good services too. So I didn't had to look for any other source.

I'm another loyal Namecheap fan. I host with Hostgator, get domains with Namecheap. From what I've heard, it's good to split up the host and domain registrar in case one goes down or gives you trouble, though both of them have been pretty good to me.

NEVER register a domain and host with the same company.

Let's say you were to get accused of spamming, or have hackers install a malicious script on your site, or otherwise due to the incompetence of the hosting company have your account suspended. If the relationship with your Web hosting company goes sour and your domain name is registered somewhere else, to re-establish your site all you need to do is get hosting set up with a new company, copy your site over, and point your domain name registration to your site’s new location. But if your Web host is also your domain name registrar, you also need to transfer the registration, as well, probably for an additional fee. And worse yet, if the hosting company decides it really doesn’t like you and it controls your domain name registration, it may decide to cancel the registration altogether.

Also, if the company went out business, you have no way of changing your nameservers, so you lose your domain, and you also lose the files on your server.

Personally, I use Godaddy for domain registration, but most people here seem to recommend Namecheap.

The best domain service is Godaddy, but if you are just starting out, you can get 5 domains for free from 1and1 if you sign up for their 6 month free hosting trial. You can always cancel it later and transfer your domains to Godaddy once the money starts rolling.

hosting cheapest i can find
$12/yr for one domain
or $84/yr for unlimited domain

My 2 cents is, whatever u end up picking, run backup frequently. Nothing more painful than losing the entire site due to couple silly click like i did

Given i said that, yes, I am a webmaster. I do use some script that help me automate my site though.

It's probably fine, there are countless resellers of domains, BUT:

Remember, you will probably be purchasing dozens or even hundreds of domains, so it's pretty hard keeping them all organized if you buy from different places. I have to keep a spread sheet that has like a dozen tabs. So, I really recommend you stick with one company.

The other thing to be aware of is that some companies will offer you a great price for the first year (or how ever long you purchase for) but then jack the price up when it's time to renew. It's often a real pain in the butt to transfer a domain (and they know that), so they kind of get you over a barrel.

Like so many have said before... I like godaddy. But there are plenty of fine companies out there.

It made chuckle a bit too, which was one of my reasons for starting this thread.

Your right, I have plans to buy a number of domains in the future, so keeping them with one company is going to save a lot of hassle.

I'd definitely go with a known, reputable company for domain names. Look at it this way. You can get a .com for less than $1 a month from NameCheap or GoDaddy. And if you do anything at all with it, it will pay for itself. So why not go with them?

But always look for discounts and coupons codes.

I haven't used internet.bs but it is an ICANN-Accredited registrar. Full list of accredited registrars here.

I hold domains at Godaddy,Moniker,Name LLC,Enom and Dynadot and have no issues with them at all.

I recently purchased 1 domain from internet.bs
since now No problem
So never contacted Customer care.
So i recommend them.I also recommend godaddy,namecheap.

I'm all about saving money when I can. But, sometimes, you have to measure saving a few bucks against the potential headaches of buying domains through a lesser known provider. Given some of the horror stories I've heard, it just doesn't seem worth it.

I have never heard of that domain registrar before. I personally don't like godaddy or name or any of the bigger domain registrars. I have 90% of my domain names with a medium size domain registrar.
