Recommend an online backup for my hard drive etc.

Anyone have recommendations for hard drive backup? I've been looking at Carbonite which isn't bad, but I'd love some feedback from others

I use Mozy for my personal use (Macbook and Windows 7 Desktop) and for my server's I use Cloud Drive from rackspace.

    Charlotte,

Carbonite for the big stuff, and Dropbox or Mozy for the current working files.

Carbonite is sloooooow on a full re-install, but it's solid. It handles everything, and does it well.

If you also keep a local copy of your files on an external HD, it's easier (and many times faster) to recover from that. Dropbox and Mozy can help make sure you don't lose the working stuff in between local backups.

Yes, I've been thinking that an external hard drive would be a good investment for all my client files. Lord have mercy, if they ever disappeared I may jump off a cliff. I'll have to check out the other two you mentioned as well.

    Hello,

If you are going to do External HDD make sure its raided. If your gonna have it on one HDD then its consider a mirror(I do not like mirror)

As for online backup, I would read their policy in case some others can access your private data.

I trust rackspace the most and their stability. My entire company runs off their cloud servers.

Hi! I like Mozy - haven't had to reinstall but my friend has and said it was flawless. I also like a hard copy at home - but I still do an off-site copy in case of fire/flood/theft etc.

I only have external hard drive for my backups. Portable and easy to use.... never tried anything aside from external hard drive.

For really large files that isn't practical to store in the cloud, I use Syncback to automatically backup my laptop to my desktop.

For smaller files that I need access anywhere I just use Dropbox and Google Docs.

    LiveDrive look good.

Never rely on 1 external drive - my Iomega 1TB drive failed *without warning* recently. Now I have 4 drives. I just bought a 1TB USB3 device that doesn't need an external PSU and it's really nice - it's not much bigger than a mobile phone.

Oooh! Reading that just gave me the chills.

I have an external 1TB and I've been considering getting a second one to back it up. Thanks to you, I won't waste any time in doing so!

Stay away from Mozy and Carbonite... they are nothing compared to Crashplan.com. I have used them all by the way.

I use Carbonite. It makes me feel safe having them online because I live in a hurricane prone area and I know if anything ever happens to my house/computer, the files are still safe. (knock on wood.)

Yes Carbonite is a great service that you can use.

It's nice because you get to decide what you backup. You can also save things that were originally on an external hard drive.

I've said lots of training videos this way. And its great!

I don't take chances with my business. Everything is backed up on a external hard drive. They're dirt cheap. Acronis True Image is a great piece of software for backing up and recovering from a system failure.

I also utilize Dropbox for instant access to necessary files. Remote access to those files is great and having them available pretty much anywhere means I don't have to worry about getting my primary computer back up as fast as possible.

Every Internet Marketer HAS to have an external hard drive. There is just so much valuable data that you have to keep up with at all times.

They're extremely cheap, anyway. So there's no way you shouldn't backup all your files.

I have 500GB on my laptop and a 1TB external hard drive to back up important documents. I am not a fan of cloud storage but it's a must have in case something goes wrong. I use DropBox for very important docs/files. I dont store music or movies/videos and I dont care about them.

Mozy is a good service I tried it but didnt stick.

After my last meltdown, I went with a combo of an external drive for an image of the internal drive, plus Dropbox. You can store a lot of data files in the 2GB they give you free.

My office desktop is in the shop right now, and looks terminal, but this time around is a lot less painful.

I use Seagate GoFlex, backups up automatically when it detects a change in files. Haven't had a problem with it. But I haven't had to restore anything yet (hopefully will not have to experience that. I'm hesitant to using anything online.

My recommendation - do NOT use mozy. I paid for their service for about 2 years and then had a hard drive crash. I could NOT access my data - I sent over 10 support tickets - not a single one was answered.
