Hi all
As many of you are, i'm new to this.
I'm a 37 year old Director & Shareholder of a small business in the UK. I've a plan to sell up when i'm 45 and move on to pastures new (a bit of work and a fair bit of golf!) and IM is what I want to be doing!
So, i've got 7 years to gradually progress into this line of work and hopefully this will be my main stream of income when i'm ready to "retire" from my current work
.
This looks like a great site for advice and help regarding programs, strategies etc and what i'm really after here is a bit of advice to lead me in the right direction.

I've made a start and purchased George Brown's Google Sniper 2 and produced a sniper site, but the rankings aren't great as yet - only appearing on page 9 or 10. Is this a good method to start with?

I've been tempted by other programs advertised/spammed to my inbox but after checking up on the Warrior Forum, decided to give them a wide berth.

If any helpful soul out there wants to pass on some helpful tips, they will be gratefully received.

Thanks for reading

Stuart

Google Sniper is a good starting point for newbies. It's all about affiliate marketing, selling other people's products. But I don't think Google Sniper shows you the importance of list building, and so you might want to consider building a list of prospects who come to your site, so that you can sell to them in the future. The classic saying in internet marketing is 'the money in the list' and it is absolutely true!

Google Sniper does seem to be where a lot of people tend to start.

I'd say that it's just as easy to learn the skills to develop your own products. It's similar to the differences of being a business owner or just an employee.

If you 'employ' yourself into promoting someone else's products, you're kind of stuck waiting for them to release the next thing that's suitable for your list of clients (or having to find other shoe-horn type products)

However f you 'own' your own products - you can simply decide to add another line of products whenever you want or when your clients start ASKING for it.

Also in my opinion by your customers are more likely to remain loyal to you if it's all your own work.

I'm not saying that you can't make a FANTASTIC living by promoting other people's products, but that you should give consideration to developing your own.

        Hope that helps?

        Paul.

    Hey Gobbs,

One of the best little nuggets I can share with you is put off buying anything. Since it seems as though you have structured a nice time frame for yourself to learn IM, you want to first "choose a path". The best way to choose a path is to read. A lot.

There is a ton of information here. And it's all free! Read every day. Learn the basics and read some more. When your done reading, come in here and ask lots of specific questions. You will get answers to your questions.

After a month or so, you will have a much better idea of which path seems most appealing to you and can therefor make a better choice on what to buy if anything.

Try to choose one path and one path only. Dont get distracted by the latest and newest "thing" that comes your way (believe me, it's easy).

There is no failure, only feedback. Learn from your campaigns. And do not go onto something new until you master your current path......or just plain hate it. = )

    Hi Stuart,
Well like your small business the key to long term profits online is building a customer list that trust you. There are systems and programs that are great today but may not be so great next week, next month or next year. A customer list should stay with you for life!

Seven years is perfect as 7 is the number of perfection.

You already seem wise beyond the "newbie" status as you are not giving in to temptations to buy every bright new shiny toy coming down the pike.

Congrats on taking action! Great advice above.

Information overload will definitely result if not careful but pacing yourself and balancing your learning/action taking is key.

    Hope to help.

    Hey there Gobbs!

Great plan and as the others have said, it seems you have a good mind for success in this field. As I have been "trying" at this for a while, I'd say try to stick to one method and keep running through the obstacles until u reach some form of success (Whether that be monetary or an epiphany that this method isn't for you).

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or would like to collaborate on anything. I by no means am successful through IM, but I am open to learn new things and network.

    Good luck with your ventures!

    Hi Stuart,

As for your Sniper site, I'd recommend making sure it's correctly optimized. Targeting
a set amount of keywords is much smarter than "stuffing" your blog with keywords that you would like to target. Instead, find a keyword or two and start actively pursuing them with proper backlinking campaigns.

Look further than Google Sniper and SEO. Marketing is one of those things where you can apply MANY levels of knowledge and experience to.

It's not what you know, it's who you know.

Stop thinking only about helping yourself achieve your goals, and start thinking helping others help you achieve your collective goals.

Hey, great posts here in response to your thread.

My personal opinion is that you should start out absorbing the free methods presented to you.

My two big things are keeping it simple & taking action. By keeping it simple, I mean focus on methods that are laid out for you on the forum, and implement them just as they were meant to be. After you make it work -- scale it or add another method.

Funny thing happens........you are motivated, and take action. You use simple methods, and suddenly you've built a business with multiple income streams bringing you $$$ on a regular basis.

I'd join the War Room, and also search the forums for free methods laid out for newer people.

      Hey all

I'd like to thank you all for responding and your great advice - it's a really helpful start and i'll take it all in gradually.

Looks like one of the first things i should do is start a list - no doubt i'll have more questions to you guys on that soon!
I'll also do plenty of reading - train myself up - this place certainly has heaps of info to help me.

I'm thinking of starting a blog of "my 7 year progress" towards being full time in this field. Is this a good idea? Would warrior forum members view and subscribe? That would start the list off well

      Thanks again
      Stuart

    Hey Gobbs,

If you keep up with that "7 years in progress" blog and update regularly.. I'd subscribe to see your progress. The hardest thing in this field is to keep up with it, and keep going after failing.. But I support you in your ventures. Warrior forum is behind you too. Stuart,

It seems that you have 3 distinct advantages:

1- You are already managing a company, meaning you already know more than enough about running a business
2- You are making a plan for 7 years which is absolutely perfect
3- You are already beyond the analysis paralysis many IMers suffer from and already taking action.

My two cents: Advice is always good, but doing things yourself (as you are already doing) and then seeing and analysing your own results is always the best way. You have more than enough time to perfect anything you will decide to do.

    Best of luck

    Hi,

My strong advice is to try some different ideas and then follow one plan. You also need to cost each idea and measure the results. If you think of Internet Marketing as 'media buys' to an 'offer', then those two elements are easy to measure (in fact, easier than offline). You can quickly come up with a cost per acquisition (sale or subscriber). Treat it like a normal business really.... all the very best, Allen

hi, there are lots of people that can help you on teh forum. I would say go through the WSO section. That place is gold if you use some of the products offered and take action.

The thing is keeping up to date with it all. There are so many good offers only take up one or two. You do not want to get overloaded where you are right now.

Hi I sell actual products on line in Australia but I am moving toward a retirement plan where I subsidise my pensions with some passive IM income.
The only bits of advice I can offer are
1/All that glitters is not Gold ( but I see you already know that and are steering clear of the many get rich quick schemes )
2/ The people that made the most money in the Gold rush were the people who sold picks and shovels.
    Good Luck with it

Google Sniper is a good place to start. You will get familiarized with the main SEO strategies and you could make some money in the meantime. However finding keywords that respect the Sniper criteria is becoming each dar harder and harder as thousands of people are building sniper sites in hundreds of niches.
