I have just unsubscribed from EVERY mailing list

During a moment of reflection a few days ago I realized that I spend far too much time checking out all the videos, blogs, free reports, etc. that are recommended from the marketers I admire enough to be a member of their mailing list.

I have realized after a couple years of IM, that I have a pretty rock solid foundation already and that everything I am spending time checking out because of somebody else's recommendation is simply wasting my time.

Don't get me wrong, each and every list that I was subscribed to taught me a few things, and I'm sure they would have taught me much more, as I am in no way claiming to know everything. The thing is, I know enough, and my biggest enemy right now is the limited amount of time I am able to actually use to act on all of my own ideas... which is what got me to where I am in the first place.

Because of this, I have opted out of every list and I will re-evaluate my decision here in a couple months. Besides... its not like I can't resubscribe at any time.

Thoughts?

Wow. I did almost the same thing the last few days. I unsubscribed from quite a number of mailing lists. I too found them time consuming. Though I did keep a handful.

After reading your post I am going to rethink this. Maybe it is time for me to unsubscribe from everything and try going it list free.

I'm in the same situation as you. I'm unsubscribing myself from many lists these past 1-2 months especially.

One of the main reason is of course the flood of emails coming to the inbox. Most importantly, many of these "not-to-be-missed" emails are simply a great time waster.

Instead, I've turned my keeping up-to-date with this forum, yes, WF. Perhaps once my e-biz reach another level and time permits, I'll resubscribe back ... or will I? Hmmm ...

Newsflash! Sometimes unsubscribing from mailing lists actually confirms that your email is valid with black-hat email marketers.

    • He's right, unless you have opted in for that mailing list. Anytime you follow their so called unsubscribe directives, it simply puts you on more lists...So beware

Eh, IDK. I think that is kind of digressing, you won't be finding out about possible new products, offers, or services that could make you money. Even with a solid base, you never know what could happen. When you stop growing, you start dying, thats my opinion...

That is true, blackhatters are able to confirm emai address legitimacy by people opting out sometimes. Though, for me at least, I have am only interested in hearing what reputable marketers have to say, and they utilize well known, trusted third party list management tools, so I should be OK there... plus I always use throw away email addresses for all my optins that forward to my main email address... and its a tactic others should consider as well.

As far as missing out on money making opportunities and not growing, that is one way to look at it. I'm not saying this is something everyone should do. I am blessed enough to have plenty of money making opportunities in place for the time being, and I am pretty sure that anything worth checking out will most likely be touched on here in this forum, or the other main one I visit semi regularly.

You are absolutely correct, if you arent growing you are dying. The thing is, you dont need to be exposed to brand new tactics, etc. to grow. I have so much room to grow my business right now, and the whole reason I have opted out of these lists is because it is growing at a pace that I need to be able to devote more attention to see to it that it is maintained.

So many people spend so much time trying to learn every possible method and tactic to build traffic, or build a list, etc. that they dont spend an adequate amount of time actually making it happen.

Thats funny, because I had to do the same thing last week. And yes, I do admit, I learned a lot from my subscriptions, but after awhile, the mailings seem to get repetitive, but I dont blame you. Probably a smart decision

The great thing about IM is that nothing ever changes, so there's no real news to keep up with.

Mods, is it OK to link to my Geocities page here?

Lol! I forgot about geocities, my first website was in the SouthBeach neighborhood... those were the days.

I dont want to be misunderstood, I am not cutting myself off from new ideas (I'm not going to stop reading the blogs I love, attending seminars, etc... ) I am just simply taking some time to grow my business according to the model that is currently in place. I have found its far more effective and profitable to take action, fail quickly, learn, etc. rather than spending so much time learning every method under the sun before taking any real, measurable action... and for me, personally, I found myself overloaded and trying to absorb as much as possible first.

I guess it all boils down to a personal weakness. This is what I am doing to fix it.
